I guess theres no telling how old vintage is, but either way this amplifier is 27 years old and still shining .

Diving straight into the pics:

Jcm800 50watt combo for those who didn't figure so far

She's amazing, I have barely stopped playing her since I got her and the first thing I did was plug in this morning (as opposed to usually getting breakfast )

My first tube amp and it's definately a good experience!

Review:

If I had to describe her in one word it would be punchy.

This thing can handle a crunchy tone like mad, don't expect much out of it at low levels but once you start to crank then this baby can growl.

I'd reccomend her to anyone looking for a rock tone but if you're after metal I'd look into a pedal.

I'm so pleased with it and it's a keeper so far .

MOAR PICS on next post

Thanks for looking, feel free to ask questions

Confrabulations, mate.

You need to get all that dust cleared up so she looks more like a real vintage gal.

#6
Yeah I'm gunna give her a good clean some time soon, and get rid of that blu tack on top , I've just been so busy playing her! Might also get the screw covers and salt wash em to make em nice and shiny but either way i'm still pleased

I was just thinking about which distortion pedal would go well with it? What'd you think about a Boss OD?

EDIT: and resticking that peice of tolex that's coming loose

What speaker does it have in it? the 12-65? or the 12T-75?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion.

Feel free to express yours so I can make an informed judgement about how stupid you are.

Nice buy! Nothin like a tube Marshall. Also, I've heard 25 years old is considered vintage, so it looks like you're in the threshold!

By high-gain I don't mean stupid stuff. I just mean styles like Motley Crue or Iron Maiden

I think the vintage thing is a bit of opinion but if you think it's 25 I'll gladly think it too .

HNUVAD TO ME

As for the speaker I have no idea.. but I believe it's got 80W of power if that helps at all.

Thanks for the comments.

I have the 2554 from 1987, I imagine tonally they're fairly similar.

Frankly when I play through it, it makes me want to touch myself.
Got it:
Pacifica 604w, Hohner G3T, PRS SE Soapbar I, Schecter Ultra I
Fender 'evil' Twin, Marshall 2554 combo

To be honest I only bought it because I got fed up of dragging my Twin up flights of stairs and hot damn, it was dirt cheap at just £350.

I've heard youtube clips of people getting very close to Slash's sound. Personally, I seem to get pretty much the same tone out of whatever I play but 'punchy' and growling are right on the money for Marshalls of this age. I'm pretty sure a friend had the same amp as yours when I hadn't been playing for long and it was frankly the bollocks.

Yeah, same here for only £330 I got this beaut, which will probably cost me another good £500 in the long run but damn it's worth it.

Nice choice. Not only a good first valve amp but a good amp period.

My playing can in no way give justice to this amp! (Honestly my playing sucks).

And one thing I did notice inside my amp was a dead spider in it's web..

back on topic: anyone who's saying it's a great amp is right and once I've twinned it with a good OD/Distortion pedal it will be even better .

Thanks for the HNAD comments everyone!
