I'll put the main point of the thread before my rant.

How do you feel about oversleeping? How late do you normally sleep? How do you combat oversleeping so it doesn't fuck up your whole sleeping schedule?


So my Brother In Law works at a shipyard, and asked me if I could use some summer work. Last night was my first night. Hours? 9PM-5AM. Job? Cleaning sludge from tanks of a barge. This consisted of pulling up ~60lb. buckets of sludge with a rope, through a tank of ridiculous fumes, and dumping this into drums. Roughly 1200lbs. of sludge per tank. Roughly ten tanks.

The work isn't what got to me; the fumes got to me. Before long I was nautious, and towards the end of the night I was vomiting. So I came home, showered like never before, and slept. I awoke at 9AM, then 11AM, and didn't get out of bed until1:45. I felt disgusting, and now, I rant. I feel like I've wasted my whole day with sleep and it's infuriating.

I like getting up at a reasonable time, but I usually can't if I don't have to be up. I end up sleeping in until 12 or so.

having said that i usually go to sleep around 4 in the morning and wake up about 9-10
also your sleep wasnt so bad you got about 7 hours of sleep which is normal especially after a long night of work

I only sleep in on Sundays, and never later than 9 am. I'm busy with running at 7 every morning and I hate that feeling of me wasting a day.

I don't sleep too much. 1am-6:30 on weekdays, and I'll sleep in to maybe 8 on weekends. I hate having to sleep at all, though.

I'm terrible for it, I woke up at 3 today after falling asleep not long past midnight.

Last night I went to sleep around 5:30 am and woke up at 3 pm.

I normally don't like sleeping so late but there's just nothing to do here during the day, so if I sleep late I can shower and all that and then just go out.

Yeah, that's the only justification I could come up with. I'm just worried that sleeping so late will make me stay up later, then sleep later the next morning, etc.

Im training to be a top chef, so getting up on time for me is essential, Ive gotta be at work at 7 every weekday morning, and I enjoy work. Even though,l I set 3 alarms, at 2 minute intervals, works a treat

I set my alarm for 8am this morning, as I had work at 9. The alarm went off, and I put it on snooze. It went off again 10 minutes later, and I hit a button on it, and lay my head on the pillow again.

Long story short, I woke up at 8:55am, and had work at 9am.

The car was wheel-spinning out of the driveway.

you were asleep from 5AM to 11AM. That's 6 hours. That's under-sleeping. I don't get it?

Lift the morning constraint off, and my sleep schedule goes totally out of control. I'm one of those guys who can't find sleep before 2-3AM, then sleep for twelve hours straight. Since I'm on holidays, I stay up until 5AM and wake up at 3PM.

I hate it though, the feeling you've just wasted a day. And it ends tonight anyway, I need to go back to more of a normal sleep schedule.

Recently I haven't been getting enough sleep (been up since 2am, its now 3:30pm, got 4 hours of sleep), but I usually sleep in the summer till about 11-12, but during school it's more like 6:45-7:00. So no, I don't oversleep much. Best way to combat oversleeping is to go to bed early.

I always oversleep. But I never do anything in the morning anyway, so it just means I miss out on doing mothing. I much prefer doing stuff in the afternoon or evening.

It usually sets me up for a lazy day, though sometimes if I get up too early it comes back to haunt me later on and i'll start to get sleepy far too quickly. I'm generally quite laidback and lazy so I guess it doesn't bother me.

i take the 30 min 4 times a day method.

when you sleep it takes you forever to get to REM sleep (which makes you rest) so im 8 hrs you only get 2 hrs of REM. when you switch over to sleeping in 30 min intervals 4 times a day your body changes to skipping all other processes a going straight to REM.


reasons why im up at all times of the day vs everyone else who sleeps for hours on end.

But NREM sleep is just as important for the body. Without it you'll start noticing a decline in your general health, as in immune system being a little bit shot. Aches in the morning etc. are attributed to lack of NREM sleep. That's if my Psych teacher wasn't bullshitting us.

I hate oversleeping, but unfortunately I do it anyways because I'm up all hours of the night, even if I'm just sitting at home with nothing to do.

I'll be the first to admit she's not exactly the best teacher in the world. But we did hear from some "sleep expert" that while all the functions of sleep are kinda mysterious they were all necessary.

If I need to get up, I will wake up at the exact time I need to.

Even if I really want to go back to sleep, like I normally do, I can't because my mind plays up a load of scenarios about what could happen if I slept late. Some involve strange things...Once, I dreamt/thought that if I didn't get up, my sleeping form would be put in a catapult and shot into the moon, where I would be forced to sleep for eternity.

If I have nothing to do, however, I will sleep till whenever.

More or less this.

Though I generally feel I make up for wasting the morning (which is useless anyway) at night. It makes waking up at 9 feel a lot cooler though.

If you're working till 5am then 1:45pm is not a bad time to wake up... In fact, assuming you showered when you got home it's about the right amount of sleep.

I've started getting up earlier now I've done 2 weeks of pure morning shifts. Getting up at 5am for 2 weeks straight soon straightens out anyones body clock.

If your oversleeping its probably due to bordom. When im not at work or Uni, I overlseep alot simply due to bordom.

During the holidays i usually go to sleep at around 4am, wake up at 2pm - 3pm have breakfast, tea, supper, bed at 9pm lunch at 11pm sleep at 4am again.

i pay for it every couple of weeks or so by missing a night's sleep :/.
