Ok, I'v come to terms that my speaker has blown or whatever and need to buy a replacement one

I'm in the UK.

What wattage would I want? Its a 50w amp.

I enjoy genres such as blues, funk, rock, classic rock etc

And bands/artists such as Hendrix, Motley Crue, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, guns n roses etc.

I want something powerful. Something that give off a lovely clean with balls and nice sustain! And overdrive that makes you feel as if you have a hundred plexi's behind you. Yep, 100 of them.

I'm looking at the Eminence range...

Legend GB128
Governor
Wizard
Tonker

The Celestion range doesn't really appeal to me. I'm not keen on the Vintage range.

My speaker atm is a 16 ohm one. I have a socket for a 4 ohm, 8 ohm and 16 ohm speaker. Does this mean I can use any speaker with it?

Ideas would be nice folks...Thanks for the help.

Lol, I suggested this before, and I know that you said you dont want Celestions, but people say that the AOR and the Celestion V30 are the perfect match. Just google 'Laney AOR v30'

you could look at a private jack red coat it's supposed to be similar to a celestion green back which would be ideal for the styles you want to play, my personal favourite speaker is a celestion vintage 30

Thanks for the suggestions. I don't know what it is about the celestion vintage 30...I just don't like its shrill highs. But its all preference.

I'd like to hear from someone who knows about Eminence speakers and what wattage and ohm I should be looking at?

Thanks folks

you need a minimum of 50 watts, and for the ohms 8ohm or 16ohm would be a good choice and they're pretty easy to get hold of

Ok thanks.

Does it matter what ohm I get as my amp has a socket for both of them

not realy but the ohm's can effect the tone, i think 16ohm's is abit brighter than 8ohms

I reckon that must be bullsh*t. Or if it does affect tone, maybe only Eric Johnson could notice it or something

Not too sure really, they all sound good.
Maybe email Eminence to see their suggestion? I've emailed them before and their customer service is good

Eric Johnson actually runs his amp at 8 ohms into a 16 ohm cab, because the mismatch gives him a slightly 'browner' sound.

Not sure what speaker to use, OP. I do find the V30 to be a bit bright at high volumes.

I owned a AOR50 for a while. I put a V30 clone in it. it was the best decision I ever made with that amp. trust me, you won't look back, it sounds amazing

the v30 has a very narrow band of ideal operating parameters. It sounds great for some amps and it sounds great in some cabs. I would rather use a speaker that's a bit more forgiving.

Whats good for blues, rock, classic rock, 80s rock? Hendrix, guns n roses, motley crue, red hot chilli peppers?

I'm getting so tired of searching for speakers Sorry for the indecisiveness.

Greenbacks?
Wizards?
Governor?
Man O War?

I'm so stuck

This is how Eminence describe the Wizard:

"This Eminence guitar speaker has been developed for the guitarist that plays Classic Rock tones of the 60’s and 70’s."
#31
Oh dear...I didn't take that in when I read it did I haha.

But on the video I saw of the Wizards, they came across as very rounded and lack of treble.

Would this be down to the guitar/ pickups etc not the actualy speaker?

I still think the wizard is better then the classic lead 80.
the only speaker I really like from celestion is the g12h65.

your amp is 50 watts so you'll need a 100watt speaker. 75-80 is ok I suppose if your not going to crank it.

the tonker would actually be your safest bet.
