My band is on a writing break at the moment, and I have set myself the challenge of writing the basis for one song every day. The idea being that at the end of every week or so we get together and choose which we like best and work on them.

I figured it might make an interesting thread to follow. Sort of like a picstory or a build thread?

I'll post here every day with a rough sketch. Keep in mind it will only ever be a rough sketch, - drums will be simple, riffs will lack nuances and will probably be copied/pasted. For example, a tail might repeat where I know already that I want it to alternate. Also that should I come out with anything good (I make no claim to being a great writer) I will inevitably come out with far more bad.

The idea is to just keep writing, even if it turns out crappy. It's not something I've ever done before.

Here is today's effort: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1926148/20.7.10.mp3

Perhaps maybe do 3 or 4 songs a week instead? If you do one a day you're unlikely to get that many great ideas done, just lots of weak ones. By spending a little more time developing them it should turn out better.
I was working from 11am-10pm today, so I didn't have a lot of time to do anything so no song today. Instead, enjoy the Cornish national anthem, in all it's stolen crappy Welsh glory.

Fingers crossed tomorrow I won't be called up to track bassists and sort out drum tracks until half 10 in the evening.
