Emotions for machine aren't invented yet (that we know of.) Flight for man was impossible once too.

It was never physically impossible, now I don't think it's impossible but definitely beyond our reach for a good while.

Computer power, ie speed and memory, is currently doubling every 7 years. We are at the point where doubling current computational speed and a corresponding increase in usable memory is going to put computers in the position to program themselves.

I highly doubt humans will ever learn how to code consciousness into a computer program. That just isn't how computers work, to my knowledge.

However, I could definitely see the merger between human life and technology in the near future, a la the technological singularity theory.

_______'s law/principle/theory seems to apply here; technology can only improve this fast for so long before it physically becomes impossible to continue without unknown unknowns being introduced.

Computers are getting faster and faster, but they still don't have the capabilities of organic brains. The best thing we've had so far was some scientists emulating a tiny bit of a rat brain with a super computer. It worked, but it was just a tiny bit. Granted, that's kinda like running a video game in software mode, but still... we need a lot faster hardware for this.

But then, they recently came up with the memristor (current and time dependent resistor) and it's possible to create incredibly large memory chips with that, which helps with AI.

So, dunno. 20 years? 50? 100? Hell if I know.

What do you care? You'll be retiring by the time they become sentient.

I don't really care to be honest. All I want to know is when they start making convincing sex-bots. The current models don't cut it.
