Just out of curiosity, what we're the first songs you've been taught or taught yourselves on?

For me I went straight into the choruses of Iron Maiden like :

Transylvania
Revelations
Run to the Hills
Children of the Damned
The Trooper

that and Black Sabbath songs.
My Rig:

-Peavey T-40
-Fender Bassman 250/210
-Boss Bass Overdrive ODB-3

First song I learned on bass was Thriller. It was awesome. I miss that guitar class. Music teacher loved us. Makes me want to buy new gear to go back to playing bass. Hmm... But yeah. The songs that I learned while in that class were

Thriller
Bad
Smoke on the Water(That guitar riff was overrated in my opinion, so I went to bass on it instead, haha)
Inspector Gadget theme song]
And I tried to learn Hysteria by Muse, but to no avail, haha.

First Song I learned : Beverly Hills - Weezer

Heheheh. Then I moved onto harder things and learned Hysteria by Muse. I still wow all my friends with that (Also get a few laughs when I showed I knew the synth part from Knights of Cydonia as a tapping bass solo.).

Nice with the Beverly Hills thing. And it would be sweet to do the Knights of Cydonia synth part on bass. Wish I would have thought of it. I'm thinking I had such a short time to learn Hysteria, and I was so new at it that trying was futile. Maybe now that I've got time since I don't really work, haha, I might try again when I get my gear.

Well, first time i played a bass was just for the sake of it in one of the compulsory music classes at school. Just root notes, a, g, c and d i think, cant remember the song. Was enough to sway me from taking Graphic Communications in third year. First part of a song I remember playing on one of my own basses would be the second half of The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, for reasons i shouldn't have to state :P. First full song was probably rockin all over the world by Status Quo (without the fills lol). Spent the rest of school playing bass and aimlessly browsing the internet mostly lol.

Ironically, i now study Mechanical Engineering at university and haven't played properly in a band for 2 years!

Bat Country - Avenged Sevenfold

Cheating a bit I guess, I played guitar a couple of months before bass and learnt most of the rhythm to Bat County. Then a friend who was looking for a bassist asked me to play a gig with him, so I took my brother's old bass and learnt it. Glad I did, now bass is my main instrument.

Without actually knowing other parts to the song, the first one I learnt was

My Generation - The Who

I started out easy with "City of Blinding Lights" by U2, however the 2nd song I learned was "Californiacation", and after that, mainly a mix of U2 and the Chili peppers.
