I am split on the decision for my next guitar. Both will work for my sound. I was just wondering what you all like. Looks, sound, etc.

Just got a les paul studio for $800 about a week and a half ago and I can't stop playing it. It's an awesome guitar, great quality. You can't go wrong with the LP. I've never played the ES-335 so I can't vouch for that.

Anything except metal, ES, much classier and unmatched cleans. In any finish, it's just a nasty guitar. Don't count Les Pauls out, but personally i'd go with the 335.

i have a gibson les paul as well as a ES335. they both have their uses and each one has its own unique sound. i go with the ES335 when i want a warmer sound. i use it with a blues driver and my wah wah pedals. when i want a harder sound with a little more crunch i use the LP with my fultone OCD and a flanger. its all a matter of what your going for sound wise. there both great guitars though.
Im gonna pistol whip the next guy that says shenanigans !!!!

Shenanigans.

haha, but I'd go with the Les, a bit more versitatle. But ES335s are awesome, but a bit big.

I also have hairy butt cheeks, I once shaved a letter 'W' on each cheek, so that when I bent over it spelled WoW.

I voted for the ES-335. I'm getting a Dot soon. You should get a Les Paul though. More versatile. What sounds or bands are you going for?

Les paul is a plank of wood, 335 has the looks way better tones and are infinitely cooler. COME ON EVERYONE BUYS LES PAULS AND IM SICK OF IT.

I love my ES-335 knock off. Way better to play than my brother's epiphone les paul. The 'paul has a tiny little baby body and when you stick it on your leg it feels like your hands are running into your legs. The 335 has a nice comfy body with some sexy looks. The only problem is that the electronics are a BITCH to play with. I just finished a jimmy page wiring install and whew, that was fun. NOT.

last unsolicited advice...
you're at all wavering between a 335 and a les paul you should really check out the 336/339.

this is a good idea, unfortunately there are people who are slightly put off by the 336/339 simply because it's not an "iconic" model

Sad but true.

Really they are very different models with their own versatile tone and if you can't decide between the two and are going to disregard what AM is saying, just go to a shop, try a load of les pauls, try a load of ES-335s, and just pick the individual guitar that stands out the most to you, whether it's a les paul or an ES-335.. Either that, or you just haven't spent enough time deciding, in which case ignore what i've said, and wait until you've made up your mind before spending a lot of money on a guitar.

it's totes cool. more 336's for me. iconic design that everyone has versus a model that will be a classic in a few years. as far as I'm concerned I own one of the greatest lp's that will be sold again .

Go with the ES-335 if you can man - that is one sweet guitar for sure.

this has always been the way forward for gibson. when a new model is introduced everyone says "eww that sucks, gibson have gone downhill lately" (they've been saying that since the '60s for crying out loud!), but then, many years later, they look back on those guitars and think "actually that was pretty cool.. where can i get one?"

I just don't see the point of the 336/339 -- to me, the whole appeal of a hollowbody's the sheer size. Seriously.

you just had to be the guy who poke the badger with the spoon, didn't you
