is it okay if the action of my guitar is not quite the same for all the frets? the action down the guitar near the headstock is really low, but the action higher up the neck is a bit higher, but it's noticeable. is this okay?
Yes that is quite normal. You might be able to lower it a bit more adjusting the truss rod, but I wouldn't recommend doing that unless you know what you're doing.
Right. The string vibrates in the shape of a stretched-out oval, so you have to have sufficient clearance at the widest point of movement to clear the frets.
Otherwise, you'd get a lot of buzzing.
You actually need a bit of that in order for the guitar to work properly. It's not an issue.
