So a friend of mine is going to a pawn shop tomorrow to sell some stuff, mostly old jewelry, and I'm going with her to sell an old camera and I was wondering what other stuff would be worth selling. So what does the Pit suggest I sell?

More interesting topic: Have any pawn shop success stories where you found out your junk was actually worth some money?

Well, you're less likely to get beaten, raped, murdered, and slaughtered in a Pawn Shop than you would by meeting a Craigslist buyer, so that right there is a plus.

Pawn shops don't tend to pay much. They're pretty much just there so that people can get rid of stuff, not so that people can make money.

Well, gather all your useless crap and sell it.
Pawning good stuff you know your gonna use later is not worth it.

Not a story about me selling shit, but today I was in a shop and they had a Gibson Explorer for $600 Canadian. They also had two American Fender Strats for $800. I was really surprised to see these there, as this shop is a chain and most of the guitars they get are cheap knock-offs from brands I've never even heard of.

Pawn shops are for peoples stuff they're too stupid to know how to put to good use.

The have some Silvertone v-shaped guitar with serrated edges, for $262 I've been wanting to get in a pawn shop.

I had a friend who would pawn things to get quick money, then scrape the cash together to go buy it back before the waiting period ended and they could sell it. I swear he must have pawned his damn ipod like five times.

My local pawn shop seems to make most of its money selling used guitars, gear, and other intstruments. It's really a second-hand music shop that happens to sell guns and porn.

Your friend better not have high hopes for the jewelry. Jewelry depreciates in value extremely quickly. They'll be lucky to get a fraction of what the original price was.

My friend bought his then girlfriend an engagement ring. They broke up like a month later. Once he finally managed to pay it off we tried to sell it. We tried jewelry shops and pawn shops. Some didn't even want it. He paid about $1200 for it, and we couldn't find anyone that wanted to offer more than $300 for it.

I suggest that your friend sell his stuff privately instead of pawning it.
Y'see, a pawn shop will not give him the full value of his stuff, because they have to make a profit and will not be able to re-sell any of it at above it's full value.

But a private buyer, particularly a collector, who isn't buying to re-sell for profit, is more likely to give full value for the items.

I really want to go pawn shopping sometime soon because of all of the stories I read on UG

I dunno about old jewelry and shit, but I think a lot of stuff people sell at Pawn Shops could be sold for more on eBay.

My point entirely in my above post. ^
