Okay, so recently me and two friends have decided to ditch the dying rock scene in our town and form a techno/rave/trance band. A lot of genres there but we have a very wide influence so yeah >__>

Anyways, we're gonna be different in the fact that we have a real bassist and guitarist, the third person is of course gonna be keys/synth and we'll have pre-recorded drum tracks like most bands of this genre use because having a real drummer would be too hard to manage we feel. Besides we all love the triggered drum sounds and have any of you drummers tried to play techno on a real kit? Its freaking tough to keep it up.

Anyways, so I've been wondering what kind of stuff we'll be needing to get a techno sound for a guitar/bass... I'm kind of looking at a guitar tone like in this song, the tapping part being one of my favorite tones ever, its just so clipped sounding.

Edit: The embed didn't work, so heres a link instead... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaKlExHC4H0

Anyways, what kind of stuff am I looking at to get sounds like these from a guitar? I'm already planning on wah, flange and fuzz boxes, any suggestions for those are any thing else that might help make the techno sound?

Agree with the Digitech Whammy. Also perhaps invest in a pitch shifter.

I have a band that's getting an electronic feel... and to be honest, the most used pedal I have is my digitech whammy, paired with a big muff i can get some great tones =) however, we have no bassist, so i am actually both guitarist and bassist in there
but yeah, you can get amazing effects with this =)
otherwise, maybe a wah/autowah/guitar synthetiser/midi pickup ?

http://www.wmdevices.com/geiger.php This comes to mind, might be exactly what your looking for, in combination with some sort of phaser or something maybe?

Wah left somewhere in the middle would give a cool effect for that kind of music also. Mainly just take more ecstasy.

I can get a cool synth sound with a wah half cocked, distortion and the whammy pedal set to octave down + normal signal. I think the key here is really the octave effect and distortion though, try messing with your amps eq too.

Fuzz would be useful, i generally record industrial type stuff / dark ambient sounding stuff but i can get some sounds i can see used in techno with octave pedals and wahs used creatively :P

well daft punk plays a pretty complicated rig when they record. so does simian mobile disco, justice, ratatat. It's a mixture of analog synths, digital effects, and real instruments with some bands going more one way then the other. I know smd had used an obscene amount of korg synths, analog processors, modulators, rf generators and such to make their sound.

You don't need to go to those lengths though to play dancerock. I mean if you don't care whether your effects are analog or digital....I think you'd need something along the lines of

!!!....The EH Freeze. This pedal is brand new and eh invented it for you to have a technorock band.
http://www.ehx.com/products/freeze
--jeeze that's cool. I'm going to buy one.

Then you'd probably want something of a chorus pedal like this
http://www.ehx.com/products/neo-clone

you'll probably want a reverb pedal
http://www.ehx.com/products/cathedral

SMD loves their flangers
http://www.ehx.com/products/deluxe-electric-mistress

you'll want a frequency analyzer.
http://www.ehx.com/products/frequency-analyzer

octave synth of course
http://www.ehx.com/products/hog

you can never have too many synths
http://www.ehx.com/products/micro-synthesizer

gotta get some sweet analog octaves in there
http://www.ehx.com/products/octave-multiplexer

why not have more synths
http://www.ehx.com/products/pog2

http://www.ehx.com/products/q-tron-plus
grab the q-tron plus in case you need to go to funky town.

more modulators
http://www.ehx.com/products/ring-thing

then auto-tune everything
http://www.ehx.com/products/v256

vocode some more
http://www.ehx.com/products/voice-box

and there you have it. unch unchunchunchunch

Maybe a Line 6 FM-4?

Also perhaps a delay, you can do some cool rhythmic stuff with one.
