I'm sure there are posts about both guitarfetish Xaviere guitars and Rondo music guitars but I am wondering if any of you have experience with both to compare? I need a cheap guitar for a trip to japan in november in case of damage.

Also, any other cheap reccomendations?

*cough*

That *cough* was better than a bump.

Anyways, what type of music do you play? You like Single coils or humbuckers?

Definitely humbuckers. I'm in the highschool jazz band for this trip, and the band teacher yells when my guitar hums. Also, once I graduate at the end of this year, I'd still like to play the rock/hardcore/metal/etc I love. I'm looking at the LP copies and it seems the xavieres have better reviews than the lower end Agiles.

No, but those Agile guitars seem to get nothing but praise from people here.

I'd say, if you can, try some out at a local music store. It's alot better than listening to reviews from random people.

Good luck.

As for xaviere, I don't know, but I know rondo doesn't sell through any dealers. It would be really hard to track down a used one, especially in a specific model.

I'm thinking one of two: one from each company. Check these out and give me your input.
http://www.rondomusic.com/al2000whitegoldhw.html

http://store.guitarfetish.com/nexvsomawhwi.html

The pros I see of the xaviere are the GFS pickups, all mahogany, it's lighter, has a maple top, and a smaller radius and med jumbo frets.
Plus, it's cheaper.
Cons- unknown tuners, higher fret access looks limited

What do you think? Also, do you know if either of these guitars have a wire across the saddles? I can't look close enough.

I have owned both and they are pretty much on the same level as far as quality and feel. Two very good guitars IMO. I sold my Xaviere a while ago but I still have my Agile DC. The Agile has Gibson USA classic 57s in it they were put in before I purchased it. Agile's stock pups are not bad but I have noticed they vary quite a bit some I have played were amazing while some were good but not as good as others. GFS pups are really good, just as good as the high end pups people pay a lot of money for. GFS make a great pup that sounds pretty close to a vintage Gibson PAF so close I don't think 80% of guitarists could tell the difference. I have to say I am not familiar with GFS return policy but Rondo is awesome when it comes to customer support.

I've narrowed it down to a few options. Either a xaviere fender knock off (i prefer the bolt on neck) in either a thinline or jazzmaster shape, whichever i decide and is available with either HBs or P90s. Option 2 is the agile LP. Option three is to get the goldtop agile with p-90s and put in GFS P90s. I like option three but then I feel like I'm ripping off the guy from social distortion.

By a normal person's means, yes, but I have a budget of about $225 not including shipping because of how much this trip is. Also, that is by no means "jazzy." :P
However, I am a faithful ibanez player and I definitely want to check these out in the future.

I checked out my brother's xaviere today also. I like the feel of it, but I'm not a fan of the p90s so I'd be getting a tele model with 'buckers. Either that or agile. Has a set neck but I can't see myself getting a new neck for a budget guitar anyway.

What do you think?

Actually sound wise i find p90's better for jazz.
Anyway i think an agile would be best. The sustain from a paul copy i think is better for jazz than a strat copy

Get the Agile. You won't regret it.

Guitars from Rondo are worth much more than their price suggests. You'll definitely be able, and probably want to use it after your trip.

And later on, you could put GFS pickups in the Agile, and get the best of both worlds that way.

I think I'm gonna go with this. I'm a big guy and most double cutaway guitars don't look right on me, and I want hardtail. Plus, the added weight will feel good sitting down.

What do you guys think as for color? Sort of torn between the white and two tone sunburst. Really wish they had a classic white.

^ You should just get a guitar with humbuckers, and then get humbucker sized P90's if you want that sound. I've read that the GFS Mean 90's are really good for the price.

I'm a little late weighing in on this, but I own the Agile 2000, 3100, and Xaviere 510 LP knockoffs. The GFS Xaviere 510 wins hands down for me. Better materials, pups, electronics, frets, neck proportions and overall feel. Plus it is closer to Gibson specs.

Both vendors have a good line of products for the money, but GFS has the edge. YMMV.
