Searchbarr'ed, nothing relevant came up.

I have a couple of questions for people in the Pit.

1. What is your GENERAL opinion on suicide?
2. Is there ever a time when suicide is 'honorable' or 'right'?

Just wondering.
#2
Will anyone here say that suicide is ok?People should try and solve their problems first.

I would love it if you commited suicide...

Being serious: I am 100% okay with suicide as long as they leave a note explaining or something like that.

Of course it's a bit iffy, but frankly if I am miserable and I can't live on... The **** everyone. I will do what I think is best for me.

I don't think someone thinking of committing suicide would give a shit whether it was 'right' or 'wrong'... there's obviously something very wrong in their mind. That kind of stuff becomes irrelevant.
#11
1. I don't like it. That said, people should have the right to choose when their lives end, but the concept of it's always seemed stupid to me, I'd really prefer people to get help about it.

2. Rare occasions, but yes. For example if you're going to be killed gruesomely but have an opportunity to kill yourself less painfully, or if you're going to die soon anyway, and killing yourself now will somehow cause less harm, etc.

I don't approve of it. As for euthanasia, just take the person off of the treatments prolonging the life.

And if that is incredibly painful to do?

It's a bad situation for everyone involved. I've known people who've taken their own life, but I refuse to think of them as cowards. Things were obviously too much for those people. It's all well and easy saying "it's a permanant solution to a temporary problem" when you haven't been through what these people have. Suffering is relative and we all deal with it in different ways.
#16
I will admit freely that I have tried to commit suicide. Each time I felt that there was no other way out...

Definetely not the cowards way out, I bet it takes a lot of balls to do. I think that it is pretty selfish though, cause no matter how bad your life seems to be there are probably many people who would be absolutely devestated if you killed yourself. So I kind of see it as killing them as well.

It's a selfish act... It just leaves others to clean up their mess; usually at least. I suppose there is situations such as euthanasia where it can end suffering in all parties, or some sort of heroic death, but those situations are probably quite rare.

if you are suffereing really bad and heading towards death, and there is no simple way you can survive, then yes.

but if you're just depressed because you're being bullied, your girlfriend broke up with you, you lost your job, or anyother bullshit reason, then no. these are all problems that can be easily sorted, and taking your own life because of any reason other than the one acceptable reason mentioned before then it is not at all an 'honourable death', but instead, more of a fag death, and if anyone reading this is considering suicide because they've 'had a bad day', then grow some balls and sort your problems and don't take the easy way out.

I don't like it one bit, but I'm in no place to tell somewhat how to handle their life, so I cinsider it a personal matter.

I have never contemplated suicide. Thought about it, but never actually considered doing it.
#21
I would say the norm nowadays is due to severe mental depression. Therefore they are not in their normal state of mind and should not be the victims to abuse of them being cowards and weak.

In the circumstances of honourable sacrifices, I think a good example would be the 300 Spartans, 700 Thespians and 400 Thebans who gave their life at the Battle of Thermopylae in order for the retreating armies to have more time to prepare their defenses against the invading Persians.

And that's the central point- the people that attempt or succeed with suicide feel like it's the last resort. They've expended all possible avenues that they feel are open to them, and that leads of such a horrid feeling of helplessness.

Me too. But I was uneducated about it back then. I was stupid to do it. But there are people out there who genuinely felt that suicide was the only way out. Those are brave people who do it.

If you suffer for a long time, and you see no way of getting out. Suicide is a valid option. If you were like me, an angsty 14 year old, then it's stupid thing to do. It's not selfish at all. It's just stupid.

You have to be at a very very low point in life to be able to commit suicide.. I think I'm at a rough point in my life because I don't really have anything going for me at all. I feel depressed a lot of the time and its rare to even want to feel joy, but yet I don't consider suicide. I can't imagine the pain someone must be suffering to be willing to take their own life.

well, suicide is an option. it does have a certain finality to it, so I think it's wise to explore other options before deciding on suicide. it's kinda a thing you don't want to be spur of the moment about.

It's hard for a lot of people to understand the state of mind someone has to be in, in order to be so depressed that they even contemplate suicide. You must have to be in a horrible situation mentally, I don't think there is such a thing as an honourable suicide but there again I don't feel it's a cowards way out.

Somehow there seems to be this conception that suicide is 'selfish' as it damages the people with emotional connections to the person taking their life, however I disagree if someone is so depressed they take their own life then I think condemning them as 'selfish' is an incredibly narrow-minded point of view.

If you have to go so far as to commit suicide one of the reasons could be that no one gave a **** about helping you with whatever led you to doing so, so tell me again, how is it a selfish act?

There are some people who suicide because they think no one cares about them because they have no friends and stuff, those are stuff you can solve and dont need to suicide for.
If you are heading for death and you know you are dying with no way to stop it suicide will make it less of a pain.

Well obviously the people who take their lifes in those situations disagree. To them their problems clearly arn't solvable, no point preaching to the dead.

Pros: You don't have to go through depression
