So, after thinking about the amps and pedals I've gotten rid of over the last few years, I decided I'd make a "Gear Evolution Thread". But then, I had a great idea.

Why not get all of GG&A to show off their rig evolutions?

RULES:
- No flaming
- If there's a bunch of pics, don't quote them.
- POST PICTURES, PLEASE, IF YOU HAVE THEM.
- Go ahead and post signal paths, too.

... Yeah... So anyway, here goes!

Rig 1
Marshall MG30
Fender MIM Strat

That lasted for all of a few months

Rig 2

Strat > Looper > V847 Wah > Boss PH3 > Boosta Grande > Palomino

Rig 3

Strat > Loop > 535Q > Boosta > Bad Monkey > Wylde OD > Boss PH > Palomino

Rig 4

Strat > 535 > Phase > Bad Monkey > Boosta > Line 6 Flextone III (Loop and chorus in the loop)

Rig 5

Strat/SG > Whammy > Bad Monkey > Wylde > 535 > Fender Super 60 (Boosta, delay, chorus in loop)

Current Rig

SG/Strat > Tuner > 535 > MXR GT-OD > Egnater Tweaker (EL34s)

POST AWAY!

When I joined UG, I had a Marshall MG Mini Stack like this one (didn't have a camera to take a picture of mine, so I had to borrow a pic).

And this was my pedalboard. Dunlop Zakk Wylde Wah, Boss Metal Zone & Boss Super Chorus.

Then I got a Peavey Vypyr 30.

And my pedalboard went through some changes as well.

My next rig.
Then I got a Mesa/Boogie Single Rectifier going through a Bugera 2X12 cab with a Warehouse Guitar Speakers Veteran 30 and a Celestion G12K-85.

And here's the pedalboard.

Then I traded the Bugera 2x12 for a Peavey XXL 4x12.

Then I traded the Peavey XXL 4x12 for a Marshall 1960A. So here is my current rig.

and here's the current pedalboard.

i actually had this exact idea for a thread.

first guitar i got was the fender acoustic, then the other acoustic in fall 07, then the black ibanez in spring 08, then the strat copy ibanez in summer 08, then the gibson in fall 08.
first amp was crate gtx15, got that at the same time i got the black ibanez, i got the multi fx pedal and the strat copy from a friend and the smaller kustom amp from him too.

original rig

second amp + pedals

then i got the epiphone

got a chorus pedal

got a wah and tuner and ditched the multifx

then a new amp
Lets jump in a pool

nyandres, I've never seen that finish on an Ibanez, looks pretty killer!

It's more of instrument evolution than rig for me. The only things I've had before this = A Strat, an Iceman, Zoom 505, Marshall MG15CD and a Boss Wah. I figured why sell, upgrade, etc over and over and loose all that money when I'm going to be playing the rest of my life anyway so saved saved etc and now Yeeehaaa:

Oh god... let's see...

1. Started with a Peavey Raptor and Backstage package.

2. Then I went to an Ibanez SZ320 and Vox AD30VT.

3. Then I traded in the SZ on a Gibson Faded SG and bought a Jackson DXMG (which came with a free Crate GX15-R, which my girlfriend now has). Also had my dad's old Sunn Concert lead fixed, and got a Marshall 1960 cab:

4. Somewhere in there I sold my DXMG and bought an LTD EC-1000. Also traded the Sunn for a 5150 combo:

5. After that, it gets a bit hazy on what I had guitar-wise. I do know that I sold the 5150 and got a Mesa Mark IV though (after I bought a Laney VC30 and Mesa F-30, which I sold quite quickly after owning).

6. Bought a Seymour Duncan Convertible combo

7. Then I sold that, got a Splawn Nitro.

8. Traded that for a Mesa Road King combo.

9. Traded that for a Diezel Einstein 100, traded back cause the guy was a dick.

10. Traded RK for a Randall RM4 and Mesa 2:90.

11. At some point I got a Lopoline 2x12, Ampeg VH-140C, Genz Benz G-Flex, American Strat, Ibanez RG3120. Sold the SG, traded the Strat for an SG Standard, traded the RG for an ESP Viper, traded the EC-1000 for a Jackson RR5. Bought an Aria Nexter, traded the Jackson RR5 for an ESP Vintage Plus Tele, traded the G-Flex cab for a Washburn WMS. Bought an ADA MP-1 to go with the RM4. Bought an Edwards E-LP-92SD. Sold Lopo 2x12.

12. Traded the VH-140C for a Peavey Classic 30 combo, bought a Framus Cobra 4x12.

13. Got a Hughes and Kettner Warp X somehow. Bought a Mesa Recto 4x12.

14. Line 6 Vetta II Combo, Lonestar Strat. Traded combo for Gibson Les Paul BFG.

15. Marshall 2203.

16. Traded 2203 for a 6100. Current setup, 6100-Framus Cab/Warp X-Mesa cab.

17. Epiphone Standard Plus, MIJ Fender Strat, Ibanez RG7620, Krank Chadwick. Traded Warp X for Carvin DC727.

18. Traded WMS for Ibanez S1520. Traded something for Genz Benz El Diablo. Traded for Ibanez PGM100.

19. Traded El Diablo for Mesa .50 Caliber +, bought Rocktron Gainiac II. Traded PGM100 for a Warmoth Strat & Line 6 Vetta HD head.

20. Traded Vetta for 6505+ and pedals. Traded Warmoth for Mesa DC-5 combo, sold .50 Cal. Bought PRS CE-22.

21. Traded 6505+ for Mesa Single Rectifier.

22. Bought Peavey Ultra 120 and 4x12 cab. Sold both Mesas, and the 4x12 cab.

23. Survived off Ultra and tons of amps I had going to Russia.

24. Bought 1960 Fender Champ.

25. Bought Framus Cobra.

26. Bought ____ *will be here this week

*So currently, my rig consists of the new amp, Peavey Ultra 120, Framus Cobra, Fender Champ, Duncan Convertible, Mesa Recto 4x12, Framus Cobra 4x12. PRS CE-22, Ibanez S1520, Gibson BFG, Aria Nexter, Maxon OD-808 and a bunch of other pedals I never use.

Jesus Christ MatrixClaw .

Gear slut .

For me it's...

Casino Strat copy + Peavey Rage 128 (I think)

Acquired Samick Les Paul copy from brother

Upgraded to Vox AD30VT + Epiphone LP100

Bought Legacy DD506 electric drums (not guitar related but bite me)

Upgraded to a used Marshall JCM2000 DSL401

Bought Fender MIM Tele

Stole 4x12 keyboard combo amp from brother, now using it as extension cab for DSL401. May build a Plexi or JTM clone from parts inside keyboard amp in future (OT's + EL34s/12AX7s already inside it).

Current:

Pedals = Crybaby GCB-95, Belcat DLY-303 delay, Behringer TU-100 chromatic tuner and a busted Marshall GV-2 Guv'nor overdrive that I intend to fix sometime.

Pretty sick rig you have there with some interesting gitfiddles and picks.

You also have an interesting user name and I saw your thread in GBnC. You may want to PM a Mod and ask if what you are doing is OK. Personally I don't have a problem with it but it does seem a bit borderline so better to be safe than sorry.

1. Started with free classic acoustic guitar I got from my aunt. Pretty soon bought a Ibanez GAX06 LTD and a Roland Cube 15

2. Got an Ibanez SM7, Crybaby and a Behringer Tremolo pedal

3. Got Ibanez SZ 320ex. This is what my rig looked like on 09-02-2007 (playing for a year and a half):

4. Then I have a hazy period of about a year, probably didn't get so much gear. Then I got a Peavey Classic 50 and a bunch of pedals quickly after each other. Things looked like this:

5. Then I got a shitload of pedals, my board changed constantly. Got rid of the classical acoustic and got a cheap steel string. Picture is from 04-22-'09.

6. Pedalboard changed, guitars/amps stayed the same

7. Sold a shitload of pedals, and my first guitar. Got a racktuner and a Microverb IV

8. Board changed alot. As you can see only one pedal that was on the previous board pic made it onto this board (the wah). Got a MIJ Fender Strat. This pic is from exactly 2 weeks ago.

9. Board changed again.

That's it. Current setup:
Fender Stratocaster or Ibanez SZ320 --> Crybaby GCB-95 modded --> Retro-Sonic Compressor --> Fulltone Deja Vibe --> Blackout Effect. Musket Fuzz --> MJM London Fuzz --> Nick Greer Ghetto Stomp --> EHX DMM --> Korg DTR-2 --> Alesis Microverb IV --> stereo into Peavey Classic 50 and Roland Cube 15.

-modern day-
get rid of almost everything, realizations:
* I do not like non master volume amps
* I love gain. more is never enough.
* I h8 low output pickups.
* I h8 9s, 10s, and 11s.
* I h8 bright twangy tone.

Paul Reed Smith Hollowbody Spruce /w Piezos + BKP warpigs + 12-56 dr strings. The best guitar PRS makes. Possibly the best hollowbody that GC sells. 6 Pounds $3300.
Twinssies!!

Anderson Guitarworks Hollow T Contour - BKP Piledrive/Sinner/Piledriver + 11-54 dr strings. The most comfortable telecaster style guitar ever made. 5 pounds $1800
Anderson Guitarworks Baritom - BKP MM/Anderson Stacked single/Stacked Single + 16-75 dr strings. The best baritone in production. Looks like I should be playing tic-tac bass in a spaghetti western and not gain 100 pounds so I can try out for fear factory. 6.5 pounds $2000

Gibson Les Paul Paul Doublecut Pro - BGpickups Hellabucker/Wolfetone Fenris +12-60 dr strings. One of the three best modern day Gibson guitars. It's not as good as an r8. If Gibson made a doublecut r8 through the custom shop I would kill a man to have it. Unfortunately they don't. Gibson sucks. The dc pro basically has the same specs as a high-end Gibson USA LP. AAA bookmatched flame top, thick maple cap, body binding, etc etc etc. It's basically this http://www.guitarcenter.com/Gibson-Les-Paul-Traditional-Double-Stain-Electric-Guitar-430799-i1540102.gc with a better top. I wish they still made it. 6.5 pounds. $2000

THD Flexi 50 by Andy Marshall. 50/25 Watt class AB, 2 gain stage, any octal tubes, external bias, switchable master volume, boost. FX loop, direct out. This isn't the Marshall style amp for everyone but it's the Marshall style amp for me. It can switch between master volume/non master volume operation. It's the only non-master volume amp I'll ever need. The 25 watt mode allows me to get some power tube distortion when I need it. I can run El84s for 15/7 watts or 6v6s for 20/10. $1500

Fuchs ODS100 - Modified all original tweed super showman head with a Fuchs ODS100 dropped in by Andy. 100 watts running 4 6l6s. 3 gain stages. Tube buffered fx, reverb. Probably the most affordable dumble-style amp on the market. $1000

Soldano Super Lead Overdrive 100. This amp is classic rock, classic metal, the 80s, 90s, and today. This is the amp that every band would have used if they could have afforded one. The 6505/5150 is copied from this amp. The recto second channel is copied from this amp. It's pure sex. Almost used by SRV. Definitely used by Warren Hayes, has been part of Steve Vai's rig among others. 4 kt88s. 4 gain stages. Magic in a box. $1900

Fryette Pittbull Ultralead. If you don't tune to E you need this amp. The slo has the brightness and edginess of 80s classic metal and 90s rock. You can still hear it's marshall roots. The Pittbull is like the slo went to prison for 50 years for a crime it didn't commit. I can't imagine a better modern metal/baritone/seven-string amp. switchable fx loop, line out, switchable graphic eq. 4 kt88s. $1700

Cabs -

Top Hat 412 - 2 Red Fangs, 2 Cannabis Rex - $400
Zbest 212 - 2 Scumincos 100w - 350
Germino 412 - 2 Scumback m55/2 Scumback H75-lhdc - 800
Port City OS 412 - 2 Scumback xh75 - 2 Canis Majors - 800

Oh ya I also bought some pedals along the way.

Rig cost - Roughly 18000. Amount over budget. Roughly 9000. Prospects of eating for the next 6 months. Very low. totally worth it.

I still have it. TBH, it's not that bad of a pedal, if you know what you're doing. Noobs just tend to turn bass and treble up to max and scoop the shit out of the mids. I've since done the Monte Allums mod on it and it's a pretty beastly pedal

I didn't think it was all that bad either. For the record, people on here always say the Metal Muff is alot better than the Metal Zone and I have owned both and don't think there's that much difference. I do think the Metal Muff is a little better but not near as much as people say it is.

I've got no pics atm, but my rig wen't something this:

Stage 1: Starter Acoustic

Stage 2: (year or so later): '96 Fender MIJ Foto Flame Tele, Peavey Bandit 112

Stage 3: Added a Zoom G2.1u and a Marshall Shredmaster.

Stage 4: Added an Epi LP100 as a beater/knock around/downtuning guitar

Stage 5: Added Metal Muff and Vis Sound V2 H20

Stage 6: Added '89 Strat Plus

Stage 7 (Current): Added Malekko Chicklet, MXR Micro Flanger, GFS Tuner pedal and MXR 6 Band, and the G2.1u kinda died, so it now sits in pieces until I work out what's dead in it.

So, after all that my signal goes something like this;

Guitar-->Tuner-->Metal Muff-->Shredmaster-->Amp-->FX Loop send-->EQ-->Flanger-->H20
-->Chicklet-->FX Loop Return.

Now I'm just gassing for a fuzz, which may be acquired soonish, a wah and a better amp (which If I had $1200 AUD, theres a used Engl Screamer with my name on it =/ )

Here's the Condensed Version

1995-1997
MAIN GUITAR(s): 85' Kramer Focus 3000, 82' Yamaha G245-SII Classical
EFFECTS: None
AMP: Peavey RAGE 158 Transtube 15 watt combo with 1 8" Speaker

1997-1998
MAIN GUITAR(s)/Changes: 85' Kramer gets a Floyd Rose Sustainer in the Bridge Position, 1990 Harmony H-80 Strat clone that I put back together myself and bought for $10.00
EFFECTS: DOD FX-86B Super American Metal Distortion
AMP: 1979 Peavey Backstage 30

1998-1999
MAIN GUITAR(s)/CHANGES: Harmony gets it's original neck back, Kramer is totally rebuilt with EMG Selects, Kahler, and new PG. Both get replaced by a briefly borrowed 1977 Aria SG copy with faux Humbucker pickups that I rebuilt for a classmate.

EFFECTS: DOD Super Overdrive Plus, later traded for another Super American Metal pedal to replace the one the cats peed on and killed. Also bought a DOD Compressor/Sustainer not long after that.

AMPLIFIER: EPIPHONE EP-SC28 Stereo Chorus amp, the amp I would use right up until I joined Lithium in 2001.

1999-2001
MAIN GUITARS: 1977 Aria SG given back to classmate when we finally got in touch again, and replaced by a 1996 Fender Jag-Stang with EMG Pickups as my main guitar, this guitar is still my #1 favorite.

EFFECTS: Had an Arion Stereo Metalmaster borrowed for part of the year, as well as a Crybaby wah, then gave those back, and later took possession of a BOSS ME-6 sometime in November from the Rhythm guitarist of the band I was in.

AMPLIFIER: Started off using the Epi, but it wass too quiet, borrowed various amps, mostly Peaveys from the 80's, until I got a PA system and started using the ME-6 with the Peavey XR-684 Mixer for my sound.

2001-2003
MAIN GUITARS: Same Jag-Stang, and my old red Kramer as a backup

EFFECTS: BOSS ME-6 through a Korg AX-30G digital effects board, all with custom patches that did everything from shred to make noises like R2-D2 on crack.

AMPLIFIER: Started off this period running through the P.A., then using rhythm guitarist Hawk's Peavey Special 130 75 watt combo after he bought a Crate Blue Voo Doo.

2003-2005: Same Fender Jag-Stang for 90% of everything, and an armada of home built guitars + a few Squiers and Cheapies.

EFFECTS: BOSS ME-6 and KORG AX-30G till they totally wore out and stopped working, had the AX-30G patched together with footswitch buttons for awhile to keep on using it while I saved up for the Digitech RP-200A that replaced both.

AMP: I used the simulations on the RP-200A run through a Pentium based computer with a SoundBlaster 16 PCI sound card, and recorded my own music using TwoTrak and later QuartzAudiomaster.

2005-2007: Fender Jag-Stang was used until 2005, when the tuners wore out and it would not stay in tune for awhile, it was then replaced with a 1998 Fender Jaguar with Cool Rails for awhile till I could get new tuners for the Jag-Stang, then the Jag-Stang and Jaguar exchanged out as main depending upon my mood.

EFFECTS: Had a BOSS ME-33 for awhile, till the cats peed on it and killed it, leading to it being replaced with a Behringer V-Amp Pro rackmount, something they could not pee on.

AMPLIFIER: Same old computer, upgraded to a Celeron and later a Pentium III, using the same software. Occasionally I'd throw a Danelectro ChiliDog Octave in front of the V-Amp for octave effects.

2007: Jag-Stang became the main again, used the Jaguar for Double Drop C, and had a new Jagmaster and Telecaster to play with.

EFFECTS: Digitech GNX-1, Behringer V-Amp Pro, used the GNX-1 as the main processor till it fried itself.

AMPLIFIER: Same computer, with upgraded memory and a SOundBlaster Live 5.1 instead of a 16 PCI, and running under Windows 2000 Pro instead of 98 SE. Started editing patches through the computer a lot more often. Also got a Line6 AX2 212 for live should I meet people to start a band.

2008 - RIGS are now 2 Separate Rigs - Live and Home STudio

LIVE RIG (Smokin' 66')

GUITARS: Jag-Stang and Jaguar

EFFECTS: SKB PS-45 Pedalboard Case with a Digitech Whammy, BOSS PS-5 Super Shifter, Zvex Fuzz Factory, Crybaby Wah, DOD Stereo Flanger, Starcaster Chorus pedal, and Behringer DD400 Digital Delay.

AMPLIFIER: Bugera 333XL with Bugera 4X12 cabinet, running on Bugera or Mullard EL34 power tubes (had a brief flirtation with Mullards when I was learning how to bias that thing)

STUDIO RIG (Home STudio) - New computer built (3.40GHz Pentium D, 4GB of RAM, 160GB SATA HDD, Windows XP Pro, Quartz AudioMaster Freeware), otherwise, same setup as before, with me using my live rig pedals with the V-Amp to get more sounds.

2009

LIVE RIG: Added a home-built Fender Jazzmaster copy to my lineup. A Behringer Phaser, and Audio Technica wireless system are added to the board, and the Starcaster Chorus is replaced with an EHX Stereo PolyChorus pedal. The Bugera also starts being used through a late 80's Peavey 412M straight front Cabinet with Celestion GK-85s speakers.

STUDIO RIG: Started using my live rig pedalboard with the Behringer to expand my abilities.

2010 (present)

LIVE RIG: Main Guitars revolves between my Jag-Stang, 66 Mustang, Jaguar, and home-built Jazzmaster, and some occasional others (Warlocks, Pacificas, Strats, Teles, etc...). The board has only changed slightly, with the Behringer DD400 being replaced by a BOSS DD-7 Digital Delay, and the Audio Technica wireless being replaced with a Sennheiser Freeport Wireless.

STUDIO RIG: A Behringer Virtualizer Pro 2024P has been added in stereo to the post DSP effects loop of the Behringer V-Amp Pro, and a Digitech Whammy scored for a mere $30.00 at a Pawn Shop has been added to allow for most sounds to be approximated on my home studio setup.

RIG @ G/F's: Met a gal, jam at her house sometimes, and don't feel like dragging a ton of stuff with me when I hang out. Bought a Peavey Rage 158 (newer version with the Vintage/Modern voicing switch), and stuck a DigiTech RP-250 at the front of it, which is edited by my Netbook to have most of the same sounds as my live rig, as well as some remakes of my older sounds and some Celeb presets. A Squier Jagmaster with a Warmoth replacement neck stays there as my guitar to jam on there.
