Hey,

I'm going to be saving from now till christmas for an amp and will have around £400-£700.

I'm not sure how good i'll be at saving, hence the gap.

UK by the way.

I want something:

gig worthy

Nice clean channel

Organic, powerful overdrive channel

Something reliable

I play in a band and we like stuff like blues, classic rock, rock, funk etc

I like my solos

I like bands such as red hot chilli peppers, hendrix, motley crue, guns n roses, muse etc

I would like the idea of a head and cab. The head can be as much as I have, i'll save for a 2x12 cab or something after.

I like the look of:

Laney Lionheart

Orange Rocker 30

Marshall Plexi

Marshall JCM 800

Peavey 5150

Thanks guys, all the info you have would be very helpful

5150 and JCM800 won't do funk that well.

Plexi would be much too loud if you want overdrive from the amp.

Don't know much about the Rocker or the Lionheart, but I guess they would work.

EDIT:

I don't really know those man.

I'm kinda going after something thats known...if that makes sense?

No, it doesn't.

ok. funk isn't something I play alot atall. I just like the idea of being able to play it if I wanted.

And I meant that I'd prefer to stick to amps that are known to be reliable and overally good.

Not saying Jet City Amps arn't good. But I don't know anything about them.

Yeah, but i'd prefer not to buy an amp with built in effects.

Cheers, i'll look into the vox

The Jet City amps are made by Mike Soldano, Andy Marshall (of THD) and one other partner.

Two of the Jet City guys make some of the best amps in the world under their original names, and the Jet City label is their way of making their products low-cost. The JCA100 and JCA50 are Soldano SLO clones (except the JCA50 combo, which seems to be a Lucky 13 clone) The SLO's been used by tons and tons of people, including Clapton and Eddie Van Halen in the '80s. SRV also played through one for a brief period, and Warren Haynes is a known user of the SLO.

I've had tube amps for a while now, but never actually had any go down on me

maybe you're not saying the right things? an amp likes to know you care.

The Rocker 30 is soon to be replaced by the Thunder 30, which is a similar amp with an added fx-loop. The Thunder 30 is cheaper than the Rocker 30 new, but you probably won't find it used.

I'd go for the Vox

Nice ! what clone is it?

Yeah man its out. In the UK anyway. Around £550-£600 for the head.

Seems quite reasonable

EDIT: It seems its not quite out yet. You can pre-order it though so I assume its soon

I get decent funk tones from my JCM800 clone. It's all about using your guitar's volume control wisely.

Sure, it's possible, but would a JCM800 be the first amp you'd buy for funk?

also you people all realize that jet city are a cheap alternative to Soldano's right? If he can afford an 800 or a plexi, he could afford to get a real soldano. It would almost be dumb for him to look at jet city when he could afford a real soldano.

and shame on the person that suggested the haze

I'm not sure how it sounds compared to the rocker 30 though. I'll check it out.

Whats your opinion?
