A guitar I'm considering buying has a SD ABH-2 Blackout installed in the bridge but also comes with the original SD SH-4 JB that it came with, in case I want to swap back to that pickup.

My question though is... with these SD pickups or pickups in general I suppose, is swapping them something I could do myself or would I have to go to a guitar store/tech and pay money?

Swapping is easy enough to do if you can read and follow a wiring diagram and use a soldering iron, but changing from the Blackout to a JB will be trickier as the pots will need to be changed as Blackouts use 25k pots (I believe, they're active anyway so that some extra wiring) and the JB 250/500k. Most stores will do a swap for fairly cheap though.

Depends where you go - my local place in Bristol charged me £15 to swap a JB/59 to EMGs, but your places may vary.
