Hey I have a normal squier strat that i'm trying to remove the nut from.

It is probably glued on or something, but it's really annoying and impossible to just take off.

Any tips?

Use a flathead and a hammer, and give it a light tap from the side. But be SURE to use a razor or scalpel around the edges of the nut to cut the lacquer!!!

before you try hammering it out, blow dry it for a minute or so to loosen up the glue. the nut will come out a lot easier if you do this.

This isn't my guitar.

it was given to me and I wanted to restring it lefty for fun being that i'm lefty handed.

My main guitars are an Ibanez EW and an American Strat, along with a dean I play around with for fun.

^ Most shops will do a re-nut for pretty cheap if you're not comfortable doing it yourself.
