The british goverment is intending to take pension money from the councils under the guise that it will be an investment in schools etc. The reality is that because of their bad budgeting the do not have enough money for these schemes. And if it all fails who will pay? It certainly won't be the goverment, the council. It will be the public. If anyone has any reason for me not to think otherwise please tell me.

They're reducing the money people get for pensions anyway aren't they? As well as all the budget cuts within the public sector too to 'plug the deficit'. From what you say it seems like they're taking from Peter to give to Paul as it were.

On an unrelated note, I reckon Labour will win the next election just because I imagine this government will **** everything up. And odds are that Lib Dems will lose popularity too because they haven't followed through on anything they said they would do.

The current coalition government has been left cleaning up the mess that labour left behind. It's only natural that to bring things back to a balance they're going to have to make some very unpopular decisions that the media will twist to look almost criminal. The fact of the matter is the money to fund education and the generally important things has to come from somewhere and it's not going to appear out of thin air.

They're going about it completely wrong though, they're essentially saying to people "Hai, sorry about Labour taking all of your money, to sort it out we're going to take more of your money."

The 25% department cuts are savage, and a lot of that 25% is coming from wages of those that need the money, for example quite a few people at Northants County Council who were one £18,000 PA have had £4,000 taken away, and their pay's being frozen without account of inflation.

There are lots of ways they could have gained most money lost to/by the banks instead, such as the Robin Hood tax, making the banks repay the bailout money, not allowing bonuses etc.

I agree that the government needs to get us out of sh*t, but to get the country out of sh*t they're plunging a lot of the country's people into more sh*t.

Yeah, all those problems that Labour caused, definitely not a global crisis or anything.

It's always the same in this country. Labour come in and **** everything up. Conservatives replace Labour and try to rebuild; make a couple of unpopular decisions, Labour voted back in. Labour ****s up again. Conservatives replace Labour etc
