Me friend used to play bass. She hasn't played in a few years. We tried playing together a few times, but there was no structure and I didn't know what to tell her to practice. Well I want to start an acoustic band, with me on guitar and her on bass. Probably start with playing all covers until she gets better and we get used to playing together. So I have two questions:

1) What are some good songs we can start with? Preferably something with a bass line that isn't just picking two notes. I think that was part of the problem before. She rarely practiced on her own because the songs we chose was pretty much four notes throughout the song, like The Sweater Song by Weezer.

2) What are some good exercises/books/websites for beginner bass lessons? I don't know anything about playing bass, so I don't know what to tell her as far as exercises and practicing go.

So are you saying that she doesnt want to play? Or that she wants to get back into it and you're going to help her? Because if she doesnt want to play she is not going to be a good bassist...

I'm saying she wants to play, but she can't afford lessons and doesn't have internet, so she doesn't really have anything to practice from.

We tried picking some songs to play together, but I don't play bass so I have a hard time picking something that she can play, but isn't boring.

Well in that case.

I personally watched all of the lessons on this channel

http://www.studybass.com/ is a good lesson website

I've never used this website but it looks decent

As far as songs go, any song that she likes should be fine as long as its not really complex. Something where the bassist plays mostly root notes would be best.
