Going to Long & McQuades. Budget is about $600. It'd be nice if the guitar was at L&M's. My Dot from there had a soundblock issue. I'm not sure if I could get a refund in cash.

The heaviest this one would go would maybe be alt-rock. Planning on having it as my Explosions in the Sky/whatever-other-post-rock-music-I-can-play/God Is An Astronaut, Jimmi Hendrix/Led Zep/Pink Floyd/Offspring/Foo Fighters/Muse guitar. It would also be doing jazz and (me attempting) blues. It'd stay in E standard and Drop D, and probably stay "clean" most of the time.

I'm thinking an H-(S-)S setup? Preferably hardtail. Don't really care about body shape. Nothing extreme. Maybe a Tele? I dont really want to go for a Strat, I already have a superstrat, but its not out of the question. Maybe a '72 Thinline Tele? Dunno if they make MIM versions.

Any other thoughts/suggestions? Running through a Traynor DG30

Teles are just too twangy for any kind of clean rock for me. Have you considered a Jazzmaster? Definitely distinctive... 600 bucks may be cutting it close, though.

its all about the pickups you have. guitar doesnt matter so much

Well, I wanted some variety with the H-S, or the H-S-S pups, or even an H-H with coil split.

How many more options would I have with a $700 budget?

Maybe even an SG? I'd kinda like to stay away from Epiphone's though.

This may sound really weird, but for post-rock ala ExplosionsInTheSky, i'd say its more about the pedals...delay pedals, reverb, chorus etc etc.

For guitars, i cant imagine youd need anything special. Fender Strat/Tele come to mind though.

Well, I'm getting there. I just need to get a reverb, and loop. I just need something else to play on. My Schecter's in C Standard. And I'd use the new guitar for my school's jazz band for a year, and my buddy's got a band together thats doing Offspring kinda stuff.

Tele Deluxe might do it. That has H-H though

Alright. They're kind of expensive though.

However, the other band I'm getting into as a rhythm guitarist would be playing Three Days Grace, Avenged Sevenfold, Rise Against, and Offspring. These aren't so much a big deal if I can play them well or not, but being able to would be nice.
