With the advent of the internet, it is impossible to argue that music hasn't expanded into more forms and genres than have ever existed before. From electronic ambient music, to straight up pig-fucking pornogrind, the music of today shows an extreme range in style, even going beyond what most people consider to be music.

So here's my question to you: Are there any original ideas left in music, or has every musical idea already been done by somebody in the course of human history?

No, and if you think they have you're an idiot. It's just hard to imagine a new one because it doesn't exist yet.

Music is still based on 12 notes, and a handful of structural ideas. And despite all the different ways of altering and creating sound we now have, we still divide the different sounds cleanly into different instruments. We've really not diversified that much, I think people are just reluctant to try anything that new as if you go that far beyond convention, you're sort of working in the dark, it's that much harder to come up with ideas and make them work.

New approaches to music are constantly being opened up, but I think they can only be explored gradually, because of the limits of our imaginations. We've extensively explored one particular corner of musical possibility, and it's easy to think that little corner is all there is due to the difficulty of moving out of it.

Not tigers though.

There's also PTSD old man vietnam new wave synth pop fused with bluegrass while talking about tigers, no one has done that

In a world where originality doesn't exist...

Yes, there will be new ideas flowing from great minds for many years to come. Just look harder for them, they're happening every day.

Also, I find it odd that people insert genres of today, (metal, jazz, bluegrass) when talking about something that hasn't been done before. I don't think the real innovators will pertain to old labels, even if at all.

Every genre has been used. However, not every genre has been used, AND BECOME POPULAR.

Look at Reznor...

There's always going to be something new with music. For instance, 200 years ago no one would have thought of the concept of techno or metal. And there will always be new instruments being made which will out-date each other.

Absolutely not. There is a lot of ground in music that hasn't yet been explored, namely that of xenharmonic/microtonal music and dynamic tonality.

I'd say that a large amount of what can be done in acoustic music has already been done, but electronic music has barely been tapped, even after all of the experimental electronic music of the last century. Electronic music can progress as long as the technology does.

I have a new genre, its called metal buzz.
There are 2 guitars with fret buzz on the 4th,7th,11th,12th,13th,17th,19th and 22th frets which play this excect sequence on a tempo of 160 in 4/4.
4th fret,11,7,13,12,19,17.
There is an asian man with one eyebrow while wearing no shirt and 1 sock singing the worlds:BUZZ BUZZ BUZZ GOTTA HAVE THE BUZZ.
all of this while the drummer has one hand and is drumming(only snare and 4 bass drums are allowed) the bass player is breakdancing and there are fireworkds going on in the background.

Maybe people in the times when all the music to play was classical, thought the very same, that there was no other ways of making music, and that everything was complete.

I think theres still plenty more to come, as far as musics concerned, Might not be for the best, with todays music just being processed and reprocessed and simplified so it sounds clinically perfect every time and is easy enough to dance to, but I think theres more to be discovered.

And the dude that mentioned to 2 dogs band, that would be Caninus, right? Listen to Hatebeak, haha, its got a parrot as lead vocalist.

Microtonal music is music not based on a conventional scale. It classifies 1/4th and 1/8th steps as different notes, rather than just out of tune 'standard' notes. Some people like it, but personally it sounds like an out of tune mess to me.

I would hardly consider it to be a new idea though. South asian cultures have been playing microtonal music for centuries.

Nah, everything musically possible has been done. No one will ever develop a new paradigm ever again. We might as well just stop trying.

Sounds kinda silly doesn't it?

Perhaps its not used in a different context, such as metal or even jazz. I think that would be progress, right there, with the ability to use fretless instruments, or if fully microtonal guitars are produced, with tiny frets.

If someone could make a listenable piece of "mainstream" music (as opposed to Asian folk music), obviously using microtones, or even get it in the charts, I think that would be a new idea.

No, of course it hasn't. Instruments are constantly changing, so is technology. The concept of recorded music is still very young.
