I have a Bugera 333XL, and I love the way the distortion on it sounds, but I hate how goddamned muffled it is. When I plug my Hardwire TL-2 into it and run through the clean channel, I hate the sound, but love the clarity. Is there a pedal that can give me that happy medium?

Are you playing it at very low volumes?
Also, what are your settings?

IMO the amp's distortion is way better than a TL-2.

Yeah, but it's the same story at band practice. Settings: bass and mids about 3 o'clock, treble at about 1 or 2 o'clock.

I totally agree with you on that, too.

Try lowering the bass a notch. I thought that the 333XL had decent clarity when I played on it?

Is it a 333XL combo? Are you using Bugera speakers?

If so, change them. An EQ couldn't hurt, either.

No, it's a head through a Peavey 412MS. And seeing as that's the general consensus, that seems to be the route I'm going to take. I've been looking at getting one for awhile, anyway.

What speakers are in the Peavey cab? If they're Peavey speakers, you should get a better cab.

They're Sheffield 1290s. And trust me, this is a better cab than the Windsor cab I traded it for.

Its simple actually. The problem is likely too much gain and bass.

Follow this instructions to clean up the sound. It will give you a bigger, meaner, and cleaner sound.

Lets start with the crunch channel

*To protect your ears start by lowering your gain to zero on the crunch channel
*Put the volume on the crunch channel all the way up.
*Lower master volume and raise gain slowly. In other words use the gain as you would use the volume.
* The tone you get should be a lot bigger, and smoother. Especially when properly equalized. Start with everything at 12oclock on the equalizer.

Do let me know what you think after trying this. A better speaker will certainly help, but this helps tremendously.

Its how I changed my tone. Its not exactly intuitive, but the quality of the sound one gets this way is phenomenal. Throw a power chord like that and it sounds absolutely huge. Its very smooth, and ATOMIC hehe

For leads try using a delay with about 20% feedback, 20% blend, and a tempo of about 350 or so. It's absolutely incredible. I still use the crunch channel here.

speakers, EQ settings, does the amp have a mid boost? guitar tone/pickup options, strings.

how much have you tried playing with these things. i know ive spent hours changing and tweaking all of them. even strings can have a large difference especially string guage. maybe try a brighter string? stainless steel or elixers i would say.
