what do you consider a REQUIREMENT for a metal rig? I don't mean a particular piece, such as Mesa/Boogie Dual Rectifier, but a general term, such as "Wah" or "Down Tuned"

Usually a guitar. Preferably with an amp connected to the guitar via cable. And if they're REALLY smart, some distortion.

why 10 band eq?

it helps with the frequencies only dogs can hear.

so you think any guitar plugged into any amp with any form of distortion (amp or otherwise) will do for a metal rig.

guitar into amp that could do high gain
the rest is just to make thiingseasier
but if your metal enough you could pull of playing metal with a nylon string guuitar

that actually raises a question I have to ask...

sometimes I do pinch harmonics on the high e string on the 21st fret, just for kicks, and I dont hear any audible note, just the sound of my pick on the string. Is it because the string is to thin or something, or is that a pitch that humans can't hear?

You're not doing the pinch harmonic right.

Humans can hear notes well above a 21st fret harmonic.

Nothing says metal more than eyeliner, a fedora, and a hot topic endorsement. Oh yeah, don't forget about that goofy emo haircut.

P.S. If you want to play metal you have to have a les paul and an EMG 81.

Wait What kind of "metal" are we talkin' about?
