check out video reviews and such on the internet that's what i do,
also your sig says you have a bunch of PG signature guitars one of which has been signed, that is awesome...

That Vintage, is supposed to be pretty good. Not so sure about the "Best Under £1000" award, but...meh.

This Tanglewood was £280, down to £161.

Solid Englemann Spruce top, ash back and sides.

Or, if perhaps a Baby Taylor style is OK, then this one Here

That store, being a Tanglewood Specialist, gives a 2 year warranty on them, rather than 1 and also does a full setup before they send it/you collect it.

Well, whatever guitar you choose, be sure not to go with a acoustic/electric. Acoustic/electrics are great, but at your price point, that would be a bad choice. But good luck to your friend! I would STAY AWAY from Fender starcaster acoustics. I don't know what fender was thinking with those. Try to get a used Fender CD-60 or if you can, a Fender Gemini II, used. You would probably get the best deal out of a used guitar. The Fender Gemini is an absolutely awesome model, and the CD-60 is great too. You can probably pick up a Genini II for about 150 or less, depending on the condition (if you go along with the used option). Good luck!
Happy Playing!
