Hey guys, I just picked up a Dean Vendetta 7 string from guitar center for 100$ (It was B-stock, just scuffed on the back, still all brand new) I like the feel and the neck, but I the neck isn't finished, so I was wondering, can I put some clear coat or varnish to give it a bit more of a glossy feeling? I'm just not into the natural wood feeling of the neck, too dry.

Yes you could do it. You'd need to sand the neck with 320 grit to get something for the paint to adhere to. Don't just use some cheap clear coat either, your hand will be sliding all over it constantly, so you want something durable. Either a quality lacquer or poly would be fine. Your gonna want to have a nice selection of fine grade sandpaper on hand so you can do some wet sanding, because you want that neck to be smooth as glass.

So sand it with the 320 grit, apply laquer, then?
