Hey guys
Finally getting somewhere in my amp's quest hha xD
Need amp with good good cleans and nice metal tones aswell. Possibly with an additional pedal for boost

AMP A == ENGL powerball

AMP B == Laney Gh100L

AMP C == Marshall 8100

Also, please tell me why u choose one of these amps

And do you think these amps can compete with eachother easily?
Do not suggest any other amps please xD
I can buy one of these for a very decent price (2nd handed)

Im not looking for 'brutal tonez', but it must be really really nice 'metal' appropriate :p

why is the Marshall 8100 one of your choices? They suck. Hybrid pieces of crap, And they go for like $200, while the Engl and Laney for go around $1k why they're grouped together I have no Idea.

The Laney or the Engl should both be good. Forget the 8100, seriously makes no sense why you would compare those

EDIT:WTF is fenderboy smoking, im so confused as to why the marshall 8100 is even mentioned in here HALP!

Never played a Laney but from demos I've watched you can't go wrong. Engls are beasts though.
I have a huge fear if rays.
#8
Haha, the 8100 is listed there because i can get all of these 3 amps for a very decent price

And i saw some guys here saying its good lol

But ok, so far its the laney or the ENGL

I can get the laney for like 750, the ENGL for 1000
Personally i like the laney brand a bit more too :p
But the engl is deff more metal i think?
#10
The ENGL, hands down.

I've heard it in person, and it is a great amp.

The ENGL.
I shall grant you three wishes.

None of which will work.

Does the above post enrage, offend or confuse you?

Good.

Agreed.

The ENGL is pretty awesome, too, but personally, i'd go with the Laney.

Powerball. Though the Laney is a good one as well. The Marshall may be a bit less metal than you're looking for though.

Engl, you can always trust German Engineering.

but honestly...the internal construction and quality of ENGL is not one of their strong points.

The Powerball, if it's the first series, will not cut through a mix no matter what you do. It's beyond scooped.

Go for the Laney.

The ENGL sounds SOOOOOOO good but it's heartbreaking how it's almost unusable live, it sits really far back in the mix and can't be heard.

I've never tried the Laney, only heard good things about it though. The Powerball really does sound fantastic though as long as you aren't competing with another mid-heavy amp.

I just bought a new Engl Powerball 2 last friday, i'm more than pleased with it. Compared it to about everything the guy had in the shop, and it handled metal tones, blues tones, and the praise stuff i do on sunday's with no issues.

So my vote goes to Engl without a doubt.

All 3 of those amps are completely different sounds.

Need more info on what you play and what you need it for.

As far as the Engl comments go, I've heard an EQ in the loop really helps that amp come out in a mix.

A reverse-V sort of shape could probably help, that's for sure.

What i play? Currently using a fernandes model, but gonna get a second guitar soon (for other tuning)...probably a hagstrom

What i need? If it could handle opeth songs for example, it will be perfect (not that im covering those songs, but i like their cleans and harder parts), maybe a bit harder wont hurt though

We got another guitarist in the band so if the powerball gives problems thats really not an option... The laney is under the price of the ENGL aswell :p

Btw i do not have 3k available, i told you im buying 2nd handed :p

Defintely the Laney.
The tone is so aggressive, clear and in your face.
Laney honestly shits on a lot of amps that cost more money.

If those 3 are the choices you've narrowed it to, you'd be crazy to not go with the Laney.

I have a GH100L it's a great amp right out of the box. Excellent dist can do early metal with no help, with a nice overdrive your in thrash metal territory.It has alot of pro features true bypass series loop for rack effects , and sidechain. That said the Engl is a great amp as well so you really can't go wrong either way.

For that, definitely the Laney.

Huh?

Are you referring to the Marshall (which is from a british company), or the ENGL (which is a german company)?

It's a true single channel amp with no clean channel. It has more preamp gain via more pre amp tubes. The gh100l has four preamp tubes and the TI has five or six not exactly sure. The gh100l is called a single channel amp, but has a switchable drive channel so it's really a two channel amp, as the difference with the drive channel engaged is night and day. The clean channel is a very nice option to have at least to me it is.
