I've got a pair of headphones that i'd like to replace the speaker with, but i'm having a hard time finding anyplace that sells them specifically. is it ok to use a 4'' speaker not specific to headphones, or do i have to gut another pair to get a speaker?

Couldn't you just buy new headphones?

By all means try it, but the impedance and sensitivity might not be acceptable for use with a CD player or iPod or something (i.e. they'll be way too quiet without a more powerful preamp).
