Would an SG painted black with gold hardware be considered tacky? If so I need help deciding what color to paint it and what hardware to use.

Gold and black are an excellent color pairing. It will also age well. I love the way faded gold hardware looks. Gold pickup covers do stand out a bit much. I think uncovered humbuckers look better.

That SG velocigecko would look better with no pickguard imho though.

That picture convinced me, thank you. I had never seen an SG set up that way. The main problem is that i originally wanted to stain it but i scratched that idea since i don't have the will power to sand it all the way down. Again. Plus the wood is painted where the sanding sealer had gaps from back when i was young and dumb.

Now my next big problem is figuring out what to put on the headstock.
