Hello all,

Lately I am trying to get a bit more into metal. I see that there is a lot of galloping? involved in playing metal. My band is going to play Bulet for my valentine's Hearts bursts into fire and you have those galloping notes too but it seems that my pick just keeps getting''stuck'' behind the strings which drastically decrease the picking speed.
How do I solve this? any tips or tricks to make this easier?

hold the pick closer to the tip. this also facilitates pinch harmonics and makes sweeping more accutare (imo).

altrnate picking is greater than or equal to god in metal. now, for speed vs. accuracy.

if i want to play something very fast, so it goes smoothly, i hold the pick at a slight angleso that the pick does not hit the strings completely square. i also dont hold the pick straight down, its actually at roughly 45 degree angle rathen than the usual 90.

for accuracy and a more aggresive sound, i hold the pick at 90; straight up, and the pick hits the strings squarely.

idk if this is good advise though, its just how i do it, but it works for me.

Play slower. Focus on getting things right before trying to do them fast.

the main riffs to:

hand of blood - BFMV
plug in baby - muse
mirislou - dick dale.

note not all of these are metal, but they will improve your skills.

by galloping do you mean triplets? the key is in the palm and the palm muteness of the bridge.

im pretty sure triplets are three notes that are the same where as a "gallop" is two 16th note followed by an 8th note

@OP

dude the key is practice, there isnt any special secret that will increase your speed all of a sudden

Seriously though, it's simple. All you have to do is slow down and practice.
