I would like to make a small pickup for one of my CBGs, but the only pickup wire (42-43 AWG) that I can find is sold in nothing less than a roll of 2,000 feet...

I found this at RadioShack, but would it work? Would any of this wire be suitable? What effect would the larger diameter have on the PuP's tone/volume?

It takes about 5000ft to wind a single coil pickup for a strat. 2000feet is kinda short. maybe if your bobbin is really, really small or smth...

those rolls are very short. and the larger diameter means you can't get many turns on a bobbin before it fills up. fewer turns = weak output.

My bobbins will be for CBGs though. So they'll be half as wide as a strat pickup.

Also, they will be rail style, will this affect output?

EDIT: Also, will stainless steel or a steel allow work the same as steel?
