I thought I would bring this to the attention of the pit because it is the funniest thing Ive read all day.

http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn19303-emc2-not-on-conservapedia.html

The religious far right fundamentalist christian site Conservapedia believes that General relativity is a Liberal conspiracy. Its a complete fail on their part.

It may not be the new "creation vs evolution" debate but hell it seems like thats what they want.

Should sites like conservapedia be given media attention?

Does confronting their beliefs change anything? It is well observed that it is close to impossible to change someones belief, even when they are shown mountains of evidence.

Personally, I believe that if free speech is something to be upheld, these people should be given media attention and in the forum of academia, they can get shot down quicker than phesant during hunting season.

Disclaimer: I am well aware that the conservapedia christians do not represent the christian faith as a whole. Its always the nutjobs that get the attention.

I'm glad conservapedia exists, it keeps them in their own little corner of the web and keeps them occupied so they don't fuck up wikipedia.

The entire conseravpedia website is like a 101 in trolling.

Atheism, as defined by the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy, the Routledge Encyclopedia of Philosophy, and other philosophy reference works, is the denial of the existence of God.[2][3][4] Unlike Christianity, which is supported by a large body of sound evidence (see: Christian apologetics), atheism has no proof and evidence supporting its ideology.

Currently, there is an ongoing debate on whether atheism was a causal factor for Friedrich Nietzsche's insanity or whether it was caused purely through disease.

I can't do this... I can't read this, this wikipedia knock-off puts my belief in God at peril, because a part of me refuses to believe that God could've intentionally created people who are this stupid...

You could rationalise it by saying satan corrupted them...

Wow. I never thought I would ever make a theological rationalisation.

Well they're somehow right, relativity clearly promotes social equity, it states physics laws are the same in all reference frames, theyre equal, what does that sound like? You guessed, communism.

But... That would be the cheap way out that takes the blame off of the shoulders of man.

I must revise my original statement.

Conservapedia puts my belief in God at peril... I can't believe that a God could create people that have, in their original being, a capability for this magnitude of stupidity.

In that same study, it says that 28% of Americans would disapprove of their child marrying a black person.

Seems to me that the problem isn't that atheists are bad, but that a large proportion of Americans are stupid

I agree totally with the bolded part. However I must state, though not a universal, many people of a theistic persausion tend to use arguments that take the blame off of an entity. For example "Why does god allow bad things to happen" "He works in mysterious ways/Satan done it" are genuine answers I have heard from the more... Close minded religious friends of mine.

Reverend William T. Cummings is famous for declaring "There are no atheists in foxholes.[21]

Joseph Stalin's atheistic regime killed tens of millions of people.

Darwin wrote in his private notebooks that he was a materialist, which is a type of atheist.

Some argue that a troubled/non-existent relationship with a father may influence one towards holding the position of atheism.

The history of the atheist community and various studies regarding the atheist community point to moral depravity being a causal factor for atheism.

In regards to atheism and suicide, although there are recent studies relating to atheism being a causal factor for suicide in some individuals, an early proponent of atheism being a causal factor for suicide in some individuals was the Reverend Dr. Robert S. MacArthur

And to top it all off, they don't even know what Agnostic means.

No, it doesn't. Remember in the beginning of the country, when EVERYONE believed in some form of God? The progression is just super-slow in America.

This can cause a problem for the Englishman in the US, as in Britain, a fag is a cigarette. Saying that you're looking to pick up "a pack of fags and a rubber" (that is, "cigarettes and an eraser") can lead to either a vicious beating or a rollicking good time. It can also lead to lung cancer.

In England, words such as "color" and "humor" are spelt with extra u's; "colour" and "humour." While Liberapedia accepts this, as several editors here are British, "English-English" spellings on Conservapedia are classed as anti-American. As are spellings using the letter s rather than z, i.e. "organisation" rather than "organization." It is believed this stems from the editors' beliefs that the letters "U" and "S" should not be used excessively without the letter "A", thus completing the abbreviation: USA.

Dr. Josef Mengele escaped to Paraguay after the war and perfected the science of cloning. He made several clones of Adolf Hitler, one living in Buck's County, Pennsylvania. Unfortunately for Mengele, young Hitler fed him to his dogs when Laurence Olivier told him Menegele killed his adoptive father. (SPOILER ALERT: okay, that was the plot of the 1978 film, The Boys From Brazil...which sounds a lot like gay porn and anyway, shouldn't that be called The Boys From Paraguay?
