Alright, I couldn't find anything on here about this before, and this issue makes me PISSED AS FUCK, so I figure I would share it with you guys. This is copy and pasted off of /b/, don't hate me.

It is time once again to fight for our Internets.
At first, China's internet got censored. We laughed.
Australia was next. We laughed too.
Now, it is our turn. USA, Canada, Europe, Mexico.
We are all affected.
ACTA allows them to search your iPods and computers at random, without reason. ACTA allows them to confiscate your iPods and computers without reason. ACTA allows them to block websites deemed "unacceptable". This means 4chan. ACTA will ban p2p clients, like uTorrent ACTA will allow ISPs to PERMANENTLY Ban you from using the internet, without a trial. Set aside our differences for a second. Set aside our stereotypes and cynical attitude. Think. If ACTA is passed, who's to say that we will not suffer? Who's to say that 4chan will be spared in the mass crusade against free though? Internet censorship must be stopped. Before it's too late. We must stop this. All of us.

Can't see this hitting Canada. Maybe USA.

Won't be for awhile. How can we fight it? Do we get to vote on the issue?

They've been talking to all the major countries in the world about this, if it hits the USA it hits Canada too.
Actually, they're trying to have this come into action this year. You can fight it by protesting, but thats about it because we can't vote on this.

except the lawmakers signing up to this will make the powers under this supersede those offences. Same way a police officer can shoot you in certain circumstances without being charged with murder and the courts can give police powers to search your home against your wish (through use of a warrant).

Wasn't passed.

Not to mention the public does not want it - at the end of the day democracy should work in the way that our MP's are our voice not their parties /dreams

It's pretty ridiculous, no one should ever let this be accepted - it's utterly ****ing stupid and as stated by the protest website, it'll only harm the common people - actual pirates won't be affected at all.

If this gets featured more on the news and is actually considered
then i'll join the protests - because frankly this dystopian ideal is beyond belief, this kind of thing belongs in books not ****ing RL

Enough criticism was made of this.

That's IF this reaches the news. The ACTA act has been in the works since 2007, the only way we know anything about it even existing is from WikiLeaks.

I could only imagine the arguments of piracy, child porn, sexual predators, etc. that people would use to try and justify this.

there was a relative uproar against the digital economy bill. Didn't stop that coming into effect, and those MPs were up for re-election within a few weeks.

Yes it was. There was an illegal (right?) agreement between Labour and Conservatives that it would be pushed through in the wash up. The discussions were also only attended by a few MPs (while the rest were at the bar) with not enough time to even discuss the whole bill.

send it to news corporations owned by billionaires who want their companies assets (i.e. intellectual property) to be given as much protection as possible?

I can't see any flaws in that plan. It's not like the news companies have been hit fairly hard by the internet.

BBC is meant to cover both sides of the issue. So you'll just get an article (or small slot on bbc news 24 late at night) about the dichotomy of fighting piracy vs protecting civil liberties.

this is me being pessimistic. 3 years in the (secret) making and being backed by tons of money makes it unlikely that this will be brought down by a few emails.
