So, I was thinking about buying a midi preamp. I already have a decent head, but I was wanting more gain and better tone. The only thing stopping me is that I don't know if running one through my head would be possible, or practical at the very least. Any thoughts?

You'll need to have an effects loop on your amp. Take the output from the preamp and plug it into the FX in/return. Plug your guitar into the preamp and head into speaker cab. This bypasses the preamp on your head and only uses the poweramp.
I have a huge fear if rays.

Okay, that does make sense. Am I to assume then that the replacement preamp will also replace the preamp tubes in my head?

Yes, if you run into the FX loop return, you're completely bypassing the preamp inside your head.

Yeah, that's what I figured, just wanted some extra opinions floating around. Not quite worth it. Thanks anyways, guys!
