This thread is for discussing various sound "tricks" and special effects that guitarists use on stage or in recordings. These can be anything from recipes to combinations of techniques to get desired sounds like adding phaser, wah, and divebombing in conjunction with each other.

For example, I found out how to do this cool wail-sounding divebomb effect that David Gilmour used in a live version of Comfortably Numb.

e|-----15w-----15w-----15w-----15w--------------
B|-----17w-------------17w----------------------
G|----------------------------------------------
D|----------------------------------------------
A|----------------------------------------------
E|----------------------------------------------

W = Whammy lol.

Anyway, does anyone know how to get Tom Morello's "helicopter" sound? It sounds wicked.

Btw, everything Tom Morello does belongs in this thread pretty much, lol.

this is more suited in the guitar techniques section.
as for getting the helicopter sound tom uses the whammy on the 1 octave below setting and partially mutes the strings whilst "baby slapping" the strings and moving the whammy fairly slowly, i also think he has abit of slapback delay

I love Gilmour's 'waving' sound.

Examing Comfortably Numb - check out the section "Explaining the 'waving part'" a bit down the page.

Also, nice avatar, although it belongs to Roger now, not the band.
Marshall amplifiers are the truest purveyors of rock and roll known to man.

"And give a man an amplifier and a synthesizer, and he doesn't become whoever, you know. He doesn't become us."

Holy crap, check this out!

I like Gilmour's whale sounds on Echoes, when he plugged his wah in backwards.

Pink Floyd does not belong to anyone except it's band members.
