I popped the truss rod cover off my guitar, and the first weird thing I noticed is that my truss rod is visibly sticking out, whereas with any of my other guitars I just inserted my allen wrench into a hole and turned, having faith that I was turning a rod. But I can literally see my rod here (no pun intended). How common is this?

My second and main question is that I can't adjust my rod. It seems like there's a metal piece/shaft within my truss rod that only allows me to insert my allen wrench like half a centimeter or something, not far enough to be able to turn it.

What do I do?
ESP/Edwards E-RV-148. How do I adjust the rod when I can't even insert my wrench into it?
you put a hex wrench socket over it.

Jenny needs to sow her wild oats with random Gibsons and Taylors she picks up in bars before she settles down with a PRS.
