On a floyd rose tremolo, is it true that they only work with light gauge strings?

I've read and seen information on floyd roses, particularly the ibanez edge and zero point tremolo's that say to use .009 strings.

anyone know if that is a tip, or a requirement. please answer, cuz having to use light strings might be a deal breaker for me!

Any gauge is fine, as long as you adjust the springs in the back.

When they say 9's, they mean the bridge comes as standard set up for 9's in E standard (or whatever tuning they state)

Nope, I have my 7 string FR setup with .012s and a .065 for my B in standard.
