Does anyone here know of any bands which have violinist-singers? I'm thinking of someone like Seth Lakeman (an AMAZING folk musician) or Eliza Carthy (another amazing folk violinist who happens to be pretty hot too).

I'm talking here about the violinist being the LEAD singer too....any help?

Why does the violinist have to be the lead singer?

Because I want to know if, outside of folk, anyone else sings seriously and plays violin.

Ne Obliviscaris. They have two singers, but they're both pretty prominent. The violinist does all the clean vocals. Progressive black/death metal, probably not your thing if you're into folk but they are really good

Both of their singers post here occasionally.

i dont know her name, BUT i did see someone who was an insane violinist/vocalist that opened for a production of Rent (the musical) on tour about a year or so ago @ the New Jersey Performing arts center (NJPAC). Maybe if you look the show up she'll come up with it? She was brilliant!

I'm in love with a fairytale, even though it hurts!

...and a Prog Rock band, Kansas, has a violinist/rhythm guitarist, if that counts.

Wow, you have pretty weird taste.

...but I would imagine it's pretty hard to play and sing with a violin because it's pressed against your chin?

and then there's free jazz, which isn't even for musicians.

John Cale plays the viola (close enough, right?) and sings, though I'm not really familiar with his solo work beyond Paris 1919.

Allison Krauss.

I came in to post this. When she was a tad younger she was gorgeous. She still looks great now, though.
