So my birthday is coming up and its time for me to get a new guitar. The 100$ squire I inherited from my brother is no longer cutting it (bad input jack, lots of buzz/hum, thin tone)

I'm looking to pick up a semi-hollow body because I tend to write a lot of folky / indie rock type songs, and I see them being played by a lot of the bands I like.

for under 300$, what are some guitars that you think are worth looking into?

I dont know much about electric guitars so any help is greatly appreciated!

p.s. this guitar is for recording & studio use

I played a semi-hollow from Ibanez, and I thought it was pretty good. I'm actually planning to buy one after I get around to modding one of my guitars.

I put a ton of my capital into SW Airlines... The next day, THE NEXT DAY these nutters fly into the WTC. What the hell? Apparently no one wanted to fly anymore, and I was like "What gives? God damnit Osama, let me win a fuggin' game!"

The Dot studio is a fantastic piece of kit!

It's an amazing guitar & I've been using mine on stage and recording since 2005.

Is there any black people on UG?
I don't think a lot of black people play guitar anymore.

You've officially topped oceanman as my new favorite troll.

On topic: $300's a tricky price range, especially for a (semi)hollow -- they're a lot trickier to make than your typical slab with strings. If you're serious, I'd recommend saving up a bit, so you'll have a lot more options available. In particular, the Gretsch Electromatics start around $600, but sound and play like top-of-the-line instruments, in this guitar snob's humble opinion. Just my two cents.

For what it's worth, I've never played an Ibanez I much cared for; I've found even their solidbody models tend to have quality control issues. I have no opinion at all on Epiphone, since I have literally zero experience with their guitars, but I'm willing to bet it's the same as any other budget brand: there's some good ones, and there's some not-so-good ones, so mostly you have to find the right one. The ones I've heard certainly don't sound bad.

Thanks you! Thank you! You're far too kind. So what exactly about my trolling did you like? You know, so I can improve.

a mim telecaster thinline, personally i like the 69 over the 72 but they are both great guitars and you can usually get em pretty cheap. i mean ive seen them as low as 400 and all you have to do is haggle with GC a bit and you should be able to get it for 350. great little guitars with great quality for the price
