Shamelessly lifted from our guitar brothers:

If you could only own one bass, what bass would you choose? You can't flog it, so no point in getting some gold painted diamond encrusted Ritter you'd be scared to play.

For example my pick would be bolt-on, maple fretboard, HS pickups, 3 band EQ, 5 strings with a blue burst finish. Can't decide whether it'd be a MusicMan Stingray, a G&L L2500 or an Ibanez ATK but you get the idea. That bass would do me for life, I reckon.

MusicMan Sterling, or A Fender P-Bass Deluxe (The one with the P/J pups in it).

Left handed with a very outlandish colour, obviously.

5 String, BEADG
Rosewood bolt-on neck, 24 frets, musicman bongo style neck, it's beautiful!
stingray shaped body, probably custom made, 'stockier' to account for the extra frets without it being massively long.
3 band EQ + 2 separate volume knobs rather than the traditional pickup blender for the bridge humbucker and the neck single coil
HS set up, both pickups made by Status.
Darker Gun metal finish, perhaps inca silver
'Red Wine' mirrored stingray 5 style pickguard
Rotosound Roto Bass String 45-130

If i had that, i would play nothing else. Ever.
I love Prog, +1 for synth solos and songs about maggie thatcher.

A 5 string Ibanez SR with a mahogany body with a flamed maple top in red burst. Neck through design (maple or wenge and bubinga), 35" scale, ebony fretboard with no inlays. Emg humbuckers and 3 band EQ with a 3 way swith instead of separate volume knobs or a blend knob. I think that would be a bass for the rest of my life.

AHH How could I ever choose just 1??

I'll follow suite on features

6 String 35" scale
Body = layer of walnut, then mahogany then figured black walnut top
I'd probably get it in a the Spector NS style with a deeper cut away
Neck = 5 piece maple/walnut with SR profile but BTB width
Ebony fretboard
Abalone inlays of some sort
Black stain with clear gloss & cut off at the neck with matte finish on neck
Either gold or black nickel hardware
EMG 40 DC in the bridge and 40 CS in the neck
Aguilar OBP-3 preamp
1 master volume & 1 pickup fader knob
DR High beams

Umm yea i would jizz my pants if ever that bass came to be but alas there is no such thing...if I had to get one that actually exists I would do either a Spector in Green with a black burst edge or a Woodo Black Walnut and just upgrade the electronics

Actually, my current bass isn't bad. I guess a custom Conklin 7.

-7 strings F#BEADGC
-34" scale (but tight as hell)
-fretless, 26 semitone range fingerboard
-nice beastly pickups, custom EMGs? and a custom preamp
-mahogany body, flamed bubinga top
-bubinga neck
-single offset dot at 12th 'fret' and double offset dots at 24th
-strung with handmade strings

I guess maybe retractable frets?
Versatile is the name of the game.

Honestly? My current SR700. Maybe an SR Prestige very similar to my SR700, but I haven't been able to even find a Prestige to play it.

My current Geddy Lee jazz bass. Has everything I want, awesome playing, comfortable, very versitile and it has my hipshot on it which I use quite often. Its my perfect bass. <3 The only thing I want to do is give it a humbucker for more of an edge then it'll be set.

If I had to pick a production bass, a Steinberger XL5W "wide 5" or a Steinberger L1 would do.

I don't even want to go into the specs of a custom right now, needless to say that I would keep Basslab busy for quite some time.

It's not a bass I ever plan to actually get, but if I could only have one and needed a lot of versatility, probably the Steve Bailey signature 6-string Jazz.

I think this one is one that's going to stay with me for a while . I don't think I'll ever find a better bass cost/quality wise.
I got it incredibly cheap (200 euros / 165 pound, the store had it lying around for 7 years and wanted to get rid of it), but it blew me away the moment I played it. I barely touched my SR500 after getting the ATK.

The only reason I'd ever sell it, is if I were to go completely insane.

But in all seriousness, I would probably get a 5 string (BEADG) Stingray in Trans-Teal... maybe in a HH configuration so it would be a bit more versatile.
