If I drill a hole in my Les Paul, would it ruin the finish?

well some day I was thinking about installing a kill switch.

So, If I drill it slowly I won't ruin the finish?

Why yes, there will be a hole.

Besides that, if you're not careful, some of the paint around the hole might come off. It's more likely to happen with polyurethane or polyester based finishes than with nitro.

Les Paul right? If you don't use your tone pots very often, I'd recommend rewiring both pickups to one tone pot, so you can remove the other and install a killswitch in that spot. Saves you the trouble of having to drill into the guitar, and also allows you to revert the guitar to stock form if you ever want to sell.

if you do drill a hole for a kill switch the best way would probably be to drill from the control cavity out and put a piece of wood under the guitar, and drill carefully

Get a pedal tuner and use that as a kill switch.

Epiphone Les Paul Special II? If so you can use one of these:

It shouldn't hurt the value too much.

Ah.
Why not just turn the volume all the way down on one of your pickups, and use the pickup switch to toggle the signal on and off?
