Searchbarred, didn't see anything.

As some of you may know, Newsweek Magazine recently came out with their ranking of the best countries to live in during this day and age based on the following.

If you were born today, which country would provide you the very best opportunity to live a healthy, safe, reasonably prosperous, and upwardly mobile life?
...
For this special survey, then, NEWSWEEK chose five categories of national well-being—education, health, quality of life, economic competitiveness, and political environment—and compiled metrics within these categories across 100 nations.

The top 15 countries according to Newsweek are:
1. Finland
2. Switzerland
3. Sweden
4. Australia
5. Luxembourg
6. Norway
7. Canada
8. Netherlands
9. Japan
10. Denmark
11. United States
12. Germany
13. New Zealand
14. United Kingdom
15. South Korea
Full list here.

Thoughts on this? Of course, none of these lists can ever be perfect. This one seems pretty decent to me, though, except that Luxembourg being above Canada kind of surprised me.

Well, I love Newsweek, and I always love some statistics, and, as always, I'm always game to bash America, but I tend to take these with a grain of salt, and I have no idea why; that was just my first rection.

And its much easier to sustain a happy and healthy lifestyle in a small country. Each state in the US is basically a small European country.

Life is good in Switzerland, I can attest =) but I do agree this list makes less sense for the geographically bigger countries. You live in a specific location, not like the whole country at once and the factors they chose for their list can vary quite a bit accordingly.

It's just opinion.

This whole thing is based on statistics. The only opiniated part is the 100 they chose to be on the list as the best countries, everything else (the income rates, ect.) are all facts.

Most of these countries I wouldn't mind living in (some of them only certain parts) but I don't understand how countries like Honduras even make the list. When I went there it seemed about 2% of everybody was wealthy with a samll middle class but everyone else was ****ing poor.
