Just looking for something cheap to record my singing while playing along to guitar. I have a Shure SM57 but it only can record one instrument at a time. Do I need those fancy "condensor" mics? My budget is around $50.

You won't get a condensor mic for that budget. An SM57 is the cheapest and most versatile mic available, and in GBP they're about £70. Condensors are generally better for singing, unless you're a punk/metal singer.

For recording, you really want to do it an instrument at a time anyway, to get a cleaner recording. Otherwise the vocals will get lost within the guitar and won't sound as good as they could.

i usually just use a rockband mic tbh. I doesn't have great quality, but it's cheap. It's also under $50.

I agree but the problem is it us such a nuisance to plug in all the wires. Then I have to careful not to trip over the wires or pull out cables while moving. As a result I avoid recording myself often.

I hear people on youtube singing really well with their cheap PC mics. So I think $50 should get me something good? I just want it to capture all the instruments alongwith the room acoustics.

You can easily score a SM58 for 50 bucks used and they are virtually indestructible. It would do nicely for you.

So the SM58 I can place several feet away from me unlike the SM57 which needs to be right next to the source?
