I know a 15 watt isn't the best, but can I still get a heavy metal sound out of it? I get some hard rock, but is there settings for heavy metal? Or am I out of luck?

Yes, you can get metal out of it.

Put it on the Recto red channel, turn the gain to 7 or so. Maybe boost it with the Tubescreamer model it has on there.

you can get a metal tone easily. It will never sound anywhere near an expensive 5150 or recto or anything it models, but for the price it rocks. I have one. Try one out if you can but it definitely has enough gain on tap to do metal.

I've been trying it out since my 14th birthday.

what does that mean?

you've been trying it out since your 14th birthday (means nothing as we don't know how long that's been) but what...

1.) You can't get a metal tone?
2.) You can get a metal tone but you don't like it?
3.) You are not sure how to get a metal tone?
4.) You do not know how to operate the amp?

Granted the 8" speaker is not the greatest. I'd hold out for at least the 30 or better yet the 60.

btw people the volume nob goes to 13
but put it on 6505 and turn the gains to max
low=max
mid=min-ish
high=max
maybe turn the tube-screemer on A LITTLE. If its too high it sounds fuzzy and not that metal-ish.

Thanks. I'm such an idiot when it comes to amps. I should've spent more time tinkering with it. That and two gain knobs-pre-gain and post-gain-sort of confused me.

^Pre gain=channel gain
Post gain=channel volume
And that's a terrible idea, rushpython. Take it from experience, the 6505 model has as much gain as the real thing, and the gain cranked on the original is uncontrollable. 6 or 7/10 on the real thing is as much as you'll ever need.

^+1. Don't put anything to 10. Keep your mids at least around 11 o clock. Keep the gain low and boost it with the screamer and it sounds great.

the tubescreamer on the vypyr doesnt sound good for boosting, plus im not sure if its on the 15 watt version. use the 6505 model distorted channel and it has ridiculous amounts of gain so the pregain only needs to be at like 3 or 4

pregain is the "gain" knob for distortion, while postgain is the volume

Thanks guys, I think I get the gist of it now.

Also, it does have Tubescreamer, but as an effect, not a stompbox. Only 30 watt and above have have stompboxes.
