So I just learned from my sister that they closed down the geek shop in my home town.
That shop was awesome, it had all kinds of comics, magazines, anime, figurines and role playing weapons like swords, foam maces etc.
It was a total geek shop, and one of a kind. It had a second hand manga shop in the basement where I got all my Dragon Ball comics, and frequently sold older manga I didn't read anymore. It's where my friends went to play Magic every friday.
They've replaced this one-of-a-kind store with a fucking shoe store, and I am pissed.

Has anyone else ever had a beloved shop close down? A shop from your childhood that you often visited, that suddenly ceased to exist?

Yeah, the Forbidden Planet near me recently shut up shop.

That was like a double blow, because they replaced the superior Another World shop a few years back.

At least I still have Page45 in the next town over.

Every Saturday morning from when I was 6 to when I was 13 I had piano classes. There was a bakery right outside the place so my teacher let me eat while I was doing theory worksheets. They had these amazing donuts that never made you full and really good cakes that I got for my birthday when I was little.

I went back there for something a few weeks ago and the bakery was gone In its place was a dry cleaners...wtf

They had EVERYTHING, I tell ya. Little LOTR figurines and jewelry, Star Trek posters, gothic candle holders in the shape of dragons or grim reapers, etc.

It WAS a geek shop.

I know exactly the kind of place you mean.

You have my sympathies during this trying time.

The only decent music store within 50km was closed half a year ago. Now I have to drive for at least an hour if I want to try out any gear that isn't beginner-crap.
Yes, I'm semi-sentimental about this.

there was an independent record store called Pendulum Records that did great deal on cd's and they had a great selection from new ones that were just out for about a tenner and they had other obscure stuff you might not find.

The forbidden planet in Leicester recently changed into 'scarlet moon' a shop pretty much dedicated to twilight
