Well that, what would your top 5 albums be if you rated them based solely on the riffs they contained?

Mine would be:

1. Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power (There is not a single riff in this whole album that I don't like, and I'm not really a huge Pantera fan, Dimebag Darrell was a rhythm guitar genius and to me this was the epitome of his talent.)

2. Megadeth - Rust In Peace (Well first I put Countdown To Extinction but as I saw so many of you mentioning this one I gave it a re-thought and I think you are right. My favorite album ever so yeah, I don't know why it wasn't on this list in the first place.)

3. Metallica - ...And Justice For All (I think many of you will agree with me that while the production value on this album was pretty bad, still the quality of the riffs was pretty badass.)

4. Motörhead - Inferno (My favorite Motörhead album, and before this one I wasn't really able to listen through a whole Motörhead album without getting bored by the last two songs. However this one seemed to do the trick and blow my mind while doing it. It still is one of my favorite albums ever.)

5. Anthrax - Among The Living (Similar to the Motörhead story, before hearing this I couldn't really listen to a whole Anthrax album enjoying every, or almost every, song. But it was only when I heard this that I understood why Anthrax was part of the Big Four and why Scott Ian was so famous being the band's rhythm guitarist. This album is full of genius riffs and it's also my favorite Anthrax album.)

3 - Them Crooked Vultures - Them Crooked Vultures
4 - Deep Purple - Live in Japan

I would go (In no order, just my top 5)

Cowboys from Hell - Pantera. (The only Pantera album in my books)

Metallica - Metallica
Age of Winters - The Sword
As the Palaces Burn - Lamb of God

I'm going to throw in Out of the Cellar by Ratt and Hysteria by Def Leppard. Those albums have some pretty riffy riffs.

Am I in the metal thread?

No you're in a riff thread and metal contains a lot of them. C'mon people this is really simple stuff you can figure out on your own.

Oooh someone is a badass. But anyway:

Rage Against the Machine - Rage Against the Machine
Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
Killswitch Engage - End of Heartache
All That Remains - This Darkened Heart

Those were 4 albums that really shaped my guitar playing, and naturally have a lot of influence in the riffs I write. I could probably sing you every riff in all four of those albums. A newer album, that's probably my #1 for riffs, at least right now, is Trivium's Shogun album

Am I in the metal thread?

Not really lol, if I would've said "Top 10" I would've probably brought up Muse and/or Franz Ferdinand.

But yeah, riff's are a huge part of metal so you COULD expect to see a lot of metal fans here.

Not a favourite but worthy of mention
ACDC - Back in black

also EVH was pretty awesome on 1984 and others.
