I've become really interested in the acoustic tenor guitar since I started listening to Seth Lakeman, but so far I've had no success actually finding one.

My major problem is price. I've seen some on sale for $1000+, but I simply don't have that kind of money. I don't know who makes them either, so I don't know where I should even look.

Ideally I'd love to find one under $300 if I can. Any help?

I own an Ozark Tenor, cost me £150 from eBay. The guy sent me it in open G (DGBD), but i changed it to Seth's tuning (GDAD, sometimes GDAE)

I applaud your love of Seth Lakeman though, seen him live and had a half hour chat with his drummer (Andy Tween) about using a cajon (Cuban Box drum) as a bass drum.

I am very jealous, both that you own a tenor and got to chat with one of the best drummers I've ever heard. I've seen Seth Lakeman live three times too.

I know a couple of independant guitar dealers, might ask them if they can get something in. I know for a fact that outside of a specialist folk store, I'm unlikely to find one in a major music store.

I'd check www.hobgoblin.com for a great selection of folk instruments, but other than that, and personal ads, its gonna be tricky to find one.

My one is for sale on www.guitarampkeyboard.co.uk, under acoustic folk instruments, and I would definately recommend it, for your first, but copying mine would be cheating now, wouldnt it?

The problem with instruments like tenor guitars is that they are not nearly as popular as regular guitars and as such the big outfits that mass-produce instruments are not tempted to tool up to produce them.
So, they tend to be made in smaller quantities by specialized firms...Thus the higher prices.
