Octave down maybe, that seems unlikely though... Is it tune open but out of tune fretted? that would be intonation.

He means you might have it tuned to E, but an octave below what the high E usually is, which would explain why its so loose.

Yeh, this. I thought that might have been weird wording, I should've changed it...

Yeah it's just the wrong E. Tune it to the other one

How do I tune it to a different e?

Tune it manually then. Hit the harmonic on the 2nd string, 5th fret and the high e string on the 7th fret.

It might not be tuned this way. Don't start tuning up until you're sure of the problem, or you may snap the string.

You just keep tuning it higher until it reaches E again.

I would tend to trust the tuner. Some tuners will tell you what frequency as well as what letter, so you can know which octave you're on. The highest E on the guitar, open, is called E4, with a frequency of 329.63 in standard tuning.

maybe you tuned it to the wrong pitch because my brother tuned his B-string to a G by looking at the flat/in tune/sharp lights instead of the E/A/D/G/B/E lights

Does your tuner run on batteries? Sometimes they go off when their batteries are dying.

Worse comes to worse, just tune it to the 5th fret on B by ear.

The following statement is true. The proceeding statement is false.

^Highly likely if you already snapped 3 strings. I'd advice getting a friend or someone who knows to do it.

Antyways, I don't trust digital tuners that much. My Peavey amp has one built in and it's full of fuck for the most part. I just get the root note right and do the rest by ear, much easier.

this sounds smart. Also, if your tuner has settings like you could set the tuner one # or b, because ive tuned it way off without noticing that my bro actually wobbled in bbbb, and yeah, well I did realise something was wrong....

Are you putting an e string in the e tuner? If so just keep turning the peg until it reaches e again.

I once tuned the A to a D and was like wtf is wrong with this tuner why is it so tight. Shit happens.

play this and compare the audio to your in tune string.

if it sounds the same as this, then,

is the string in tune at the 12th? if not, then work on your intonation.

Just to say this...

Are you comparing it to the rest of the strings on your guitar?

Are the other strings in tune?
#32
i found out the problem it was because i turned the string the wrong way when i was putting it on

Putting the string on the tuner backwards wouldn't cause the problem you're describing.

Putting the string on the tuner backwards/turning the tuner the wrong direction to tighten/loosen would cause no issues except needing to wind the opposite direction, and possibly some reduction in stability. Meaning you had whatever was wrong + the string on backwards, not just the string on backwards.

^if he's putting the string on backwards, he's probably not tuning correctly either.

imo, if he's satisfied with his guitar now, then yay.
