I've been getting into classic punk lately and listening into a lot of bands like the ramones, the clash, and richard hell. What are some good similar bands?
"The man that hath no music in himself, nor is not moved with concord of sweet sounds, is fit for treasons, stratagems, and spoils. The motions of his spirit are dull as night, and his affections dark as Erebus. Let no such man be trusted."

he's not classic but try listening to Jay Reatard. He has a classic sound but was actually recent. He just died in January.

I second Jay Reatard. Blood Visions is a great album.

Anyway yo, check out:
The Damned - Damned Damned Damned
Dead Boys - Young Loud & Snotty
Devo - Q: Are We Not Men? A: We Are Devo!
Gang of Four - Entertainment!
Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers - L.A.M.F.
The Stooges - Raw Power
New York Dolls - New York Dolls
Buzzcocks - Singles Going Steady

And I could probably think of more, but it's late & I ain't in no mood to dig through my library for it.

I'll add a few:

The Undertones - The Undertones
The Adverts - Crossing The Red Sea
The Adicts - Songs of Praise
The Briefs - Sex Objects
The Marked Men - On The Outside
The Cute Lepers - Smart Accessories

The last three aren't technically classic as they all formed relatively recently, but they've got the sound pretty much down.
FUCK YOU! GET PUMPED!

Patti Smith. Horses is a great album, but if you've been listening to more....punkish punk before getting into the first wave, you might dig Radio Ethiopia or Easter more. All three are great.

Television, Marquee Moon.

Iggy Pop's Lust for Life

Bowie, Aladdin Sane

Velvet Underground and Nico, or Street Hassle, by Lou Reed.

Catholic Boy, the Jim Carroll Band.

Lotsa good sheet.

EDIT: I did mean those all in addition to what people have been throwing out, cause a lot of my favz have already been mentioned. You should also dig the Veins.
