when theres two whole step jumps on a single string of the major scale, the 6th and 5th string (A, B, C#, then D E F#), should is it better to use my second or third finger to hit the middle note (B/ E)?

My 3 notes-per-string preferences:

(T = Tone, S = Semitone)

SS = 123

ST = 124

TS = 134

TT = 124

Dont know if that will help you or not, but these are what I find most comfortable. In all honesty, it doesnt really matter, as long as you find it feels right, then do it.

I'd say depends on the situation of what notes you are going for next but for a major scale pattern I'd do fingers 1-2-4 but thats just how a teacher of mine made me start I used to use the 1-3-4 version. Use both so you have it when you need it
