Well, I came very close to sacking a guitarist for playing an 8080 and that's a better amp than the VS65.

Well a Peavey Bandit is better (but I really hate those too). If all you have is £80 then the VS65 will tide you over until you can afford a decent valve amp I guess. It is certainly an upgrade from the MG15.
You're in the UK, save up and keep your eye open for an old valve Marshall, the older the better. Take advantage of the state of your economy.
