so my brother has a bass guitar and a Roland cube 30 amp and I was wondering if i could stick a guitar distortion pedal between them, its a Marshall guv,nor GV-2 plus.
Would this work or would it brake my pedal in some way?

Its fine. Amps don't break from putting whatever instrument through it, the speakers can break. The pedal has no speakers, therefore it cannot break by putting different frequencies through it.

EDIT: Many bassists do this. Cliff burton used a tubescreamer. Tostitos is right, you may lose a lot of low end because the caps in the pedal aren't designed for bass frequencies but that is adjustable on your amp/eq.

It won't damage anything, but you'll lose a lot of your low end when you switch the pedal on.
